Services
The business comprises of the Couture Label, the Pink Label, SLD Upholstery Services and upholstery courses & workshops. The Couture Label evolved from fusion ideas and specialises in the design and upholstery of quality vintage furniture inspired by the construction and form of clothing. The label's designs are part artwork part furniture creating highly individual finished pieces.
The studio is a funky teaching space in the heart of Godalming, Surrey offering upholstery workshops, courses. Sarah, who originally studied fashion design and worked for Vivienne Westwood, teaches her now well-established traditional upholstery courses in the space. She discusses and suggests upholstery and furniture design ideas with students to enable them to produce something unique and personal, taking upholstery to a whole new level.
Upholstery is a craft which began in the Middle Ages and which has been passed on for generations. It is defined in the Oxford English Dictionary as 'to provide (furniture) with a soft padded covering' and is often used as a general term for stuffed, padded and sprung furniture. A piece of furniture upholstered traditionally will consist of layers of materials, which have been built up by hand and will have taken skill and many hours to complete.
Want to organise your own upholstery workshop? Planning a birthday or hen party? Come and experience hands on traditional upholstery for a very special day with a group of friends. A one day workshop that teaches beginner level upholstery techniques and introduces the participants to traditional materials such as hessian, fibre, calico, wadding and fabric.
We reupholster modern or traditional pieces that require a revamp. From recovering, new springs or structural work, show wood treatments and replacement cushion pads. The company will give a new look and feel to anything from a small stool, a winged armchair or large sofa. The company offer a design service and customer collaboration.

Fantastic 10 week course in which I transformed a very tired looking chair. Will miss the Wednesday morning banter and singing along to Smooth radio in the background!

I did one of Sarah's upholstery courses recently. I loved every minute. Both fun and practical and harder than I first thought I managed to cover two sprung Victorian dining chairs in velver. They look amazing!I am so pleased with the end result. Sarah is a brilliant teacher: patient, encouraging, knowledgable and fun. I would highly recommend her courses and her upholstery service which is second to none.
