Cardwell Garden Centre
Cardwell Garden Centre is a thriving family operated garden centre on the banks of the scenic Firth Of Clyde at Gourock. Cardwell Garden Centre was started in 1962 by Eric Gallagher with help from his family in Cardwell Bay, Gourock with only a couple of sheds and polytunnels on a narrow strip of land.

From day one Cardwell has been a family affair with mother, father and children involved in starting the business, in between their day jobs! Having established that there was suitable demand for the products, all efforts were focused on improving and growing the business, with the family remaining involved throughout.
Services
Cardwell Garden Centre is a family operated home and garden centre in Gourock. Since we were established in 1962 we have developed into one of Scotland's largest and finest retail destinations, with over 20 departments (including Edinburgh Woollen Mill) covering approximately 36,000 square metres/400,000 square feet.
As well as this we operate Scottish Gritting which covers commercial snow and ice treatments. This part of our business has an excellent reputation for getting the job done effectively and efficiently. We cater for many large clients, both in the private and public sector. For further information or to request a free quotation or site visit please contact Lorna Ferguson at Lorna@cardwellnurseries.com or by telephone on 01475 521536.
Did you know that the vast majority of the plants that we sell at Cardwell are grown at our own on-site nursery? By cutting out the middleman this means that we can pass on the savings directly to you as all of our plants offer excellent value for money and you can be assured that they will thrive in our climate.
Rhododendrons are some of the most popular ornamental plants for gardens. Their brightly coloured flowers and full blooms make for perfect additions to any garden. They are also widely popular for their fragrance and scent. We stock a wide variety of Rhododendrons and Azaleas, including evergreen azaleas, deciduous azaleas, compact hybrid rhododendrons, dwarf rhododendrons and hardy hybrid rhododendrons.
Heathers are classified as low growing evergreen shrubs. Some are miniature forms growing only a few centimetres in height whilst others can attain 3-4 metres in the UK. The soil type will govern the types of heather you can successfully grow and as a general and simple rule the Winter or Spring flowering varieties will grow on acid or slightly alkaline (chalky) soils whereas the Summer flowering cultivars require a lime (chalk) free acidic soil.

Food was expensive and the toasties we ordered were at very best look warm, and for £6.95 each I would expect more than 2 warm slices of bread stuck together with a small bit of cheese. Nice place to visit but take a packed lunch with you.

It was very quiet, which was great for us, the chap in the Edinburgh wooden mill was a hoot, and very helpful.
We were there to purchase a Christmas tree, the chaps there were very attentive and took care and consideration with our purchase. The shops are great and well stocked.

Always a great place to visit, however at this time of year it's more for the Xmas trees and gifts than plants. The usual sort of over priced Edinburgh Woollen Mill stuff and home wares you can buy cheaper online but nice stuff all the same. Restaurant is good standard as always, reasonable prices and hefty portions, with pleasant staff all round. Great touches like the kids Xmas fairground and talking Santa's letterbox etc.
Always worth the trip any time if the year.

It's been a while since I have been here but the changes were to the better all although the work is continuing. We had rolls with bacon and sausage. They were nice rolls with a pot of tea. Just what we needed while on the road. Thank you.

One of the best garden centres I've seen. So many areas & prices are alright 👍. Good selection of gifts, cards etc also. Restaurant catering for all tastes you are able to eat in or out. Plenty parking & a beach straight across the road which is well worth a visit so you really can make a day of it here.
