Hugh Frostick offers an interesting illustrated talk about Churchill's Secret Army in North Essex. Hugh gives an overview of how the GHQ Auxiliary Units - a deliberately unexciting name - came into being in 1940 with the threat of invasion. Churchill supported the idea and entrusted the set up to some very able men who were interested in "irregular warfare".
Hugh's book has captured the extraordinary life of Peter Louis Potter. It is beautifully written, enabling the reader to get to know Peter through his vast experiences. Many are touching, others hilarious and almost unbelievable. I particularly liked the detailed account of Peter's childhood growing up in the farming communities of rural Essex.
