Services
We are Lincolnshire's archaeology museum and the Usher Gallery. We are operated by Lincolnshire County Council in partnership with the City of Lincoln Council, Arts Council England, The British Museum and the Art Fund. We are supported by the Friends of Lincoln Museums and Art Gallery, the Usher Trust and the Heslam Trust.
The archaeology gallery tells the story of Lincolnshire's fascinating heritage through artefact rich displays and reconstructions, hands-on activities, touch-screen games, and the chance to dress up in authentic historical costumes. Build your own Roman mosaic, conjure up a fantastical Medieval beast, listen to voices from Lincolnshire's past and investigate how different archaeological artefacts survive or decay.
Looking for fun things to do on days out with the kids? Play at The Collection is an exciting free activity centre for younger visitors that encourages learning through play. Dress up as a princess, a knight or even a dragon and then step into a portrait picture frame. Our large comfy window seat is an ideal place to enjoy reading one of our many story time books with your child.
From reproduction helmets and swords to toys, birthday cards, books and jewellery, The Collection sells a wide range of items to suit all tastes!. We sell a variety of pocket money toys for children including fossils, dinosaurs, Roman soldiers and Viking swords. We also have a good selection of gifts, books and games for that special present.
We hope that the information below will help you plan your visit but if you have any other questions regarding accessibility please do not hesitate to contact us. Four disabled car parking spaces are available in the pay and display car park on Danes Terrace immediately opposite the entrances to the museum and Usher Gallery.

A real hidden gem, I couldn't believe it was free entry. I've recommended to others - my main reason for visiting was for my dinosaur mad toddler :) there is only limited parking outside, we found another car park only a 5minute walk away - although then had to walk up the steep hill. (Didn't mind doing this but little legs struggled a bit and wanted carrying, and I have spinal problems - maybe something to consider if visiting and you have mobility problems, perhaps arrive early).

Free entry. Good to keep going to catch up on local history, going back to Roman times, current display in separate room houses Our Plastic Ocean, by international award-winning photographer Mandy Barker. Really scary images of what is happening in our seas. Great for the children, with some interactive things to do, nice café especially in the summer when sitting outside

Who would have thought I'd be interested in the history of Lincoln made tangible, from the Stone Age to the Roman era, right through to its recent history.
Amazing to see, read, listen and be a part of the stand's attractions.
My friend and I were fully engaged in learning about Lincoln's historical past, very imaginative, creative and immersive. You would be too!
