ASDMA was formed in 1990 with membership made up of companies who manufacture specialist bespoke doors. Many of these had been founder members of the TRADA QA Scheme for fire doors. Since the association was founded the membership has grown to include suppliers of hardware, seals, glazing and also leading UKAS accredited test houses.
The diversity of membership means the association is uniquely equipped to pull together information on all factors relating to the bespoke door industry. To further the interests of specialist bespoke door and doorset manufacturers and their component suppliers. To promote and increase best practice in the manufacture and supply of bespoke doors and doorsets.

The Complexity of Fire Doors and the Importance of Door Design - a Guide by ASDMA (downloadable PDF). ASDMA's guide to understanding the complexity of specialist custom-made fire doors and the importance of door design covers the function, aesthetics, certification, specification and configurations of doors.
The 'Door Growth' dimension measures the extent to which the operating gap (at the closing stile) is reduced as the door is operated. If this dimension is less than the design operating gap then the door will clear the frame (or the adjacent door if a pair).
If the 'Door Growth' dimension is greater than the operating gap then a 'leading edge' (bevel) will need to be applied to closing stile(s) of the door(s) such that the closing face of the door is reduced by the 'Door Growth' dimension less the design operating gap.

Third party product certification provides an additional level of assurance of both the level and consistency of performance relevant to the intended application. It provides an independent, technical process for evaluating and approving systems, activities or products (and in some cases, individuals) against a set of defined criteria in standards and procedures.
