Leek Deansgate Osteopaths
We provide a friendly healthcare service dedicated to the highest standards of care and professionalism for you as an individual. Osteopathy is a system of clinical practice that looks at the individual from a mechanical point of view, it emphasises the importance of the musculoskeletal system to the overall health of the individual.

Osteopaths believe that the musculoskeletal system contains all the elements to restore health if properly stimulated through various manual techniques, correcting problems in the body's structure and providing an environment for the body to heal itself. Back pain is a very common problem, with reports suggesting as many as eight out of ten of us will suffer from it at some point during our lives.

The practice was established in 1982 and is run by registered osteopath Scott McGrath. Scott graduated from the largest and oldest osteopathic school in the United Kingdom, The British School of Osteopathy, with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree after four years of full-time training. This had specific emphasis on anatomy, physiology and musculoskeletal medicine and included more than 2000 hours of training in osteopathic techniques.
Many of our patients have questions before their visit, so we have tried to answer a few of the most common ones here. The first time you visit an osteopath a full case history will be taken. This will involve asking a series of questions to make sure we understand your medical history and day to day routine, as these may give clues to help establish a diagnosis and to determine if you are suitable for treatment.
There are several reasons for headaches. Most are not serious and once the cause is established headaches can often be helped by simple changes in lifestyle. One cause can be tension or strain in the muscles and joints of the neck and upper back. Treatment from an osteopath may help.

Gentle massage to the tight muscles and manipulation to loosen the joints of the neck, thorax and back can relieve the build-up of muscular tension that may lead to headaches.Osteopaths can also advise on exercise and lifestyle changes and offer guidance on simple changes to your posture when at work or driving which may help.
Broadly speaking as adults we develop abnormal posture for a variety of reasons. This could be due to pain, work or sporting activities, computer or driving postures, or even peer pressure leading to the development of the stereotypical perfect posture as seen in the media. It is this abnormal posture that leads to instability and hence injury when movement occurs.
