We are a family run Independent Opticians with practices in both Kirkcudbright and Lockerbie. At John Caulfield Opticians we pride ourselves on giving you a professional bespoke eye examination and we ensure this is maintained through the dispensing process of your spectacles. Selecting a pair of glasses can sometimes be a daunting task but our qualified and experienced staff ensure you get the attention and help you need.
At John Caulfield Opticians we detect eye disease, injuries and disorders of the visual system as well as identify systemic related conditions affecting the eyes. The most common eye conditions we detect are noted below. Cataract is a very common eye condition which affects most people at some point in their lives.
John is an Optometrist who completed his Ophthalmic training at Glasgow Caledonian University in 2000 and registered with the General Optical Council in 2001. Prior to this he qualified as a Pharmacist graduating from the Sunderland School of Pharmacy in 1990 and practiced as a Pharmacist until completion of his Optometry degree.
We are very proud to have opened a practice in such a beautiful part of South West Scotland. We have had fantastic support from the local community and the feedback has been excellent. We would like to thank all of our patients for supporting us and we look forward to providing a first class service for many years to come.

Always had superb professional service from John and the staff at Lockerbie. It's the personal touch from all the staff that makes the difference which you certainly don't get from the other so called big high street opticians. Excellent selection of frames to choose from too. Cant recommended John and his staff highly enough.

HUGE THANKS TO JOHN CAULFIELD (Optician in Lockerbie)
John opened up his practice on Friday and treated me despite being closed due to covid 19, (even though I am not his customer)and was so reassuring, professional and considerate. He went more than the extra mile for me. He gave me his own mobile number in case there were any further problems, which was very considerate and made me feel safe. Saturday night 9.00 problems! I called him and he was as good as his word. He told me what to do to protect my eyesight whilst he phoned the hospital. (who later confirmed this was exactly right) He got

I went to a well known chain of opticians to have a routine eye test, not having had one for years. I had no concerns about my eyes, but was told by the optician that "you definitely need glasses and if you don't get them today, I guarantee you will be back within three months as your eyes will deteriorate". Alarm bells rang as it felt like a sales persons pitch. I then visited John Caulfields opticians to find out that I did not need glasses and three years on I still do not. I’ve been to many opticians over the years & this one is by far the best. So helpful with a relaxed atmosphere they listened to how you felt & what kind of glasses you were looking for without rushing or pushing you. I had a frame in mind which wasn’t in stock & this wasn’t a problem they ordered them in for me. Fantastic service that I highly recommend only wish I’d found them sooner.
