Malaria is spread by the bite of the female anopheline mosquito. Most anopheline species prefer to feed between dusk and dawn which is when most transmission of malaria occurs.
This winter's flu vaccination includes protection against the H1N1 (swine flu) virus and although you may have been protected against this with last year's vaccination the Department of Health (DoH) are recommending people get vaccinated again to help stay protected this winter. The meningococcus is a bacterium (germ) that can cause meningitis and septicaemia (blood infection). These infections are very serious and can be fatal if not treated quickly. Groups B and C are the common strains in the UK. Most cases of bacterial meningitis in the UK are caused by Group B. Most of the rest are caused by Group C (although the number of Group C cases has fallen greatly due to immunisation introduced in 1999).
