We are a Traditional Goju Karate club with classes in Cambridge, Huntingdon and St. Neots. While the style is very traditional we do like to teach in a fun positive family orientated environment where over 40% of our students are female. We will help you get fitter, teach you practical self-defence, send you home with a smile on your face and you never know, in a few years time it could be you wearing a black belt.

As you can see Katakuri is a family-oriented club.

What is karate? It is the art we exercise mind and body for health promotion in daily life, but in case of emergency it is the art of self-defence without any weapon. In most cases we fight with our bodies - hands, feet, elbows etc - to defeat opponents. People often misunderstand karate. When they see someone breaking five wooden board or a few pieces of roof tile by his or her fist, they think it is a main part of karate.
Unfortunately the Hai Karate Episodes are not currently available from CBBC, These are the best links I could find. Some of the Japanese links throw up a page with a funny little character in a helmet holding a broken cable. Have patience, when the countdown timer finishes they do actually play! After, well during actually, grading, my mind wondered.
I was training at a seminar at the weekend and it was a refreshing change from a bunch of Bullshido I have sometimes encountered at some other seminars. It was also great to meet up with a bunch of guys from all kinds of dojo's in Cambridge. The seminar was a must do for me it was looking at a pair of kata that have always intrigued me, Seisan and Hangetsu.
The very essence of what we do is embodied in the kata that are at the very heart of any style. Kata or 'form' are a set sequence of movements, a bit like a dance, though with more purposeful intent! Kata can be very short, less than 20 to over 100 movements. At the most basic performance level they are rudimentary self defence combinations or fun calisthenics routines.
Karate is primarily about punching, blocking and kicking using both open and closed hands as well as elbows and knees. Although, grappling, joint locks, throwing and striking vital points are also included and largely practised within the study of kata. Kata or 'form' are a set sequence of movements, a bit like a dance, though with more purposeful intent!
