We do our best to use organic, free-range and natural products from local producers and suppliers. We use Fair Trade or similar wherever practicable for tea, coffee, chocolate, dried fruit, nuts, sugar and rice. All our food is freshly prepared, so most of our savoury items are available throughout the day.
We offer home-made soups, scones, cakes, tarts and biscuits, clotted cream teas, hot and cold meals, with specials of the day, Shropshire ice-cream and desserts. All our teas and infusions are leaf, and we serve real coffee using an espresso machine. We make our own lemonade and milk-shakes, and have locally-pressed apple-juice, presss, ginger beer and Wenlock spring water.

The Queen Anne town-house was built on a narrow site, which required the front door to open on to Barn Lane rather than the High Street, probably in the first decade of the 18th Century; the earliest documentary record is a rent bill of 1731, when Edward Phillips, a baker, lived here, paying a rent of 4d to a Mr. Botville of Shrewsbury.
The first coffee house in this country opened in Oxford in 1650; by 1683 there were more than 2,000 in London. They created a distinctive social culture by treating all customers as equal and played a key role in 18th century financial, literary, scientific and political change.
The news of the day was discussed, merchants held auctions of goods, writers and poets conducted discussions, gave lectures and demonstrated their experiments, and philanthropists deliberated reforms. The London Stock Exchange originated in Jonathan's Coffee House, and Lloyds List, the first daily paper, was produced in Edward Lloyd's Coffee House.

A rabbit warren of a place with tables in two rooms and a third room with arm chairs and coffee tables. I like it a lot. We called in for brunch and discovered Staffordshire Oat Cakes on the menu, a rare treat. They seemed a little expensive at £11 but you got two each and they were served with lots of different salads, a huge delicious plateful. The price seemed reasonable after that. The coffee was excellent. Any time I'm in Church Stretton I will call in.

It was very busy when we arrived at 1.45 which I suppose was too be expected. You could see the staff were rushed off their feet. However we found a table and got served as quick as I could have expected . They were all very obliging and friendly. We had hot drinks and home made cakes with cream and ice cream respectively, which were very nice. The cappachinos were lovely. A very popular place and I can see why with the quality of the food and drinks.
Only negative was that we were seated near the cappachino machine and it was a bit noisy to hear ourselves at times.
Keep up the good work and

Lovely quirky cafe. Serves a gorgeous coffee. The food is very good and the service is excellent.
Only problem on my visit was that the soup we wanted had just run out. Just shows how good it was.
Each table has some history notes on the building and coffee houses in general as well as the general menu which is extensive. Gluten free can be accommodated.

A really nice, atmospheric coffee shop. The menu covers all the traditional tea, coffee and lunch options you could wish for. The menu also shows you all the local suppliers they use , and it is a long list! I had a local cheddar sandwich with a side salad and it was delicious. My only regret is that I didn't have time to try the cakes as they looked great too!

This was my first visit and it's a really friendly and welcoming place to enjoy a coffee with good food and a great selection of cakes on offer all served with a smile. You will not be disappointed with the service and feel for the place. A real blast from the past and I left feeling that I must visit again when I'm next in the area. A big thank you must go to the staff for making my visit with friends so enjoyable. 😊

Excellent cafe with a very extensive menu for a relatively small place. The food was very good - the scone I had was so light and fluffy. We sat in the lovely sunny, wisteria-clad outdoor seating area where our dog was also welcome. The service was the friendliest I've had for a long time. Ask to see the specials board. I'd love to come back to this place next time I'm in the area.
