Gail's Bakery
We believe in making good bread. As we've grown, so has our menu and our community, yet our values have stayed the same. We take the time to make our bread, pastries, cakes, breakfasts and lunches as we always have - with care, by hand and according to the season - so that we don't need to compromise on what we eat, whether we're on the go, or taking time out in one of our bakeries.

We believe in the power of community, in helping those around us and living as sustainably as possible. We insist on the finest ingredients, supporting small businesses wherever we can, and though we're always innovating, our baking is based on time-honoured techniques and our decades-old starters.
Services
We bake handmade bread, pastries, and cakes throughout the day in all our bakeries served with our hand roasted speciality grade house blend coffee. We are welcoming summer with new additions to our bakery and made to order menus, all made with the best seasonal ingredients from our artisanal suppliers and served fresh from our ovens.

I'm an Espresso drinker and I can state categorically that the worst coffee I've ever had in my life was in Gail's Blackheath yesterday. They burn the coffee bean to camouflage the bad quality of the beans they use. If you put milk in your coffee you don't notice so much, but it's impossible not to if you drink Espresso.

The place is nice enough but their prices indicate they think they're a bit more fancy than what they are.
A hot chocolate which didn't taste anymore special than most other places was very small in portion served in what was essentially a ramekin was ยฃ3.70!

A prime example of how not to scale. On opening in Blackheath Gail's was a gem of a coffee shop. Good coffee, good food (expensive but tasty), and super friendly/upbeat staff. Now... Terrible (often cold) coffee, the same prices for much smaller portions of food, and ridiculous waiting times (even when not that busy). Like many fast growing chains Gail's has suffered on quality control while growing too quickly.

Cafe does a great selection of cakes, patisserie items etc. The staff on site were great also. The hot drinks were not great! ordered a chai latte and a breakfast tea, chai tasted artificially sweet and very bitty at the same time. Tea was meh!
Great staff, great cakes, great location. Will try again next time.

Popped in after having spent the day fasting for a blood test in a nearby hospital and got a sausage roll, a egg and cheese slider and a cookie, as recommended by the lovely young lady serving. Even if I hadn't been starving hungry it would have been the best sausage roll I've had in years and a really top, top cookie. The slider however was the icing on the cake and was nothing short of divine. Both the filling and the brioche bun were perfect. I wish I was in Blackheath more often these days but I will definitely be popping into GAIL's next time in the area.

Updating my review 3 years after my first visit to Gailโ€™s in Blackheath.
We are regulars, meaning we buy bread and coffee everyday in this branch. Pastries every weekend. For the last couple of months we are having really bad experience to the point, probably we wonโ€™t go back.
The cues are insane, the staff very unorganised and the entire place is a big mess.
It is def to say because, until recent, it was always a good experience.
We donโ€™t know why, but things changed a lot, and for bad.
Probably because of the high demand and owners not caring much about offering a good service and

I visited today to get some muffins and cakes. It was refreshing to see a black guy as part of the staff so glad that they are addressing the diversity issues. The quality of the food was good however customer experience need to be significantly improved by ensuring that youngsters behind the counter get adequate training.

Busy town cafe with baked savoury and sweet goods and a selection of salads/sandwiches and cold oats/chia puddings. Coffee was also quite good.

I have wanted to visit Gail's last year but couldn't because of the lockdown.
As it is open for takeaway, I decided to visit.
Tried their Cinnamon roll for the first time and immediately fell in love with it ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹. It was baked to perfection. Deliciousness at it's best ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹
I went again and got another one along with hot chocolate.
This was the best hot chocolate I have had in London so far. I have only been in London for a year and mostly in lockdown but it was the best I had so far.
If you are in Greenwich park, it's a short walk. Don't miss it.

I was scouting Blackheath as I was writing a 10 Things To Do In Blackheath for my blog. I was cold and very hungry and needed the loo. I popped into Gails Bakery and enjoyed a delicious scrambled egg on toast, lovely bread and creamy tasting eggs. I took pictures of the cakes, they are yummy, I've eaten a fair few over the years! The cinnamon rolls are amazing. This Gails is very spacious.

My review is just about the bread because I haven't tasted anything else from Gail's.
I love bread that's why I will never go back to a Gail's for their bread because it is bland, dry and the next day it is hard as stone! It has the texture of the plastic and the taste of nothing...
Sorry Gail's... Maybe for a pastry next time ?
