Medicare was established in 1987 by Managing Director Afzal Khan and his brother, Director Asghar Khan - both qualified pharmacists. From the outset their aim was to provide a local pharmacy service delivering healthcare to the community, ensuring that all their customers needs were met.
The family-run business now has seven chemists, located in the Huddersfield area - Bradley, Salendine, Marsh, Lockwood, Honley and two in Holmfirth - Elmwood Health Centre and Riverside, and employ over 40 staff. They place great importance on customer service, and to ensure they remain on track they utilise a mystery shopper scheme and undertake an annual customer satisfaction survey, on which they score consistently highly.

Services
We have a full range of pharmacy services available at our branches throughout Huddersfield and Holmfirth. If you have any unused medicines at your home, you can take them to one of our chemists who will dispose of them safely. If you've recently had sex without using contraception, or you think that the contraception you did use might have failed, you may decide you want to find out more about emergency contraceptions.
Medicare Chemists is now able to offer customers the NHS Electronic Prescription Service (EPS). This service gives you the opportunity to have your repeat prescription sent directly from your GP to the Medicare Chemist of your choice.
Rather than having to collect your paper prescription from your GP and take it to your local pharmacy yourself, if you have a repeat prescription it can be sent electronically to your local Medicare Chemist which we can then fill and advise you when it is ready for collection or delivery. This is called 'nomination'.
