Here at Monkbar Pharmacy we are proud to be York city centre's only late-night independent pharmacy, aiming to offer patients a consistently high level of service. Monkbar Pharmacy is owned and operated by two local pharmacists, Paul Brett and Neil Withycombe both of whom have gained vast experience working in pharmacies in and around York.
The concept behind Monkbar Pharmacy was simple - to offer the services and products people would expect from a high street pharmacy in a friendly, punctual and professional manner. Not satisfied with this we also aim to be the pharmacy that goes that little bit further to help. So, whatever your pharmacy need, why not drop in and speak to any of our highly trained, dedicated team and see how helpful a pharmacy can be.

Nobody likes injections, but they afford protection against diseases that can make you extremely ill or at worse even kill. Despite known risks, almost one in four UK holidaymakers don't get any vaccinations, despite travelling to areas that have life-threatening infectious disease. Vaccinations protect you against many travel-related infections such as polio, typhoid, hepatitis A and B, rabies, cholera and Japanese encephalitis.
Although it's not usually dangerous, chickenpox can be very unpleasant as it causes an itchy rash and a fever. In most cases, the symptoms clear within a week. The virus can be dangerous for patients with an impaired immune system, new-born babies and pregnant women. Once you have had chickenpox, you're usually immune for life but you could develop shingles at a later point in life.
The pneumonia vaccine helps protect you against serious and potentially fatal pneumococcal infections. Our pneumonia vaccination service is available all year round and is suitable for both adults and children. Please note, we do not provide the free vaccine at Monkbar Pharmacy; if you are eligible, you must arrange this at your registered GP surgery.
Please join our waiting list for 2021/22 so we can notify you about appointments as soon as they become available. Flu is a viral infection that affects mainly the nose, throat bronchi and occasionally lungs. Infection lasts for about a week and symptoms include sudden onset of high fever, aching muscles, tiredness, cough, sore throat rhinitis.

The service is exceptional. Not only do they deliver medication, but when medication is found in a store, they contact the person's doctor who conveys the message to known contact numbers and then also ring the customer to check they've got the message and get their property back; this service could save lives, and help people live longer in their own homes. Many thanks!

If I could give a zero I would!! I have been here before and it was fine. My partner went for me last week as I am sick. They forgot to give him one of the prescriptions. He didn’t notice until he got back so he has been back for me to be spoken to like a piece of dirt!!! Saying he just wanted it twice!! Now I have to wait 2 days in agony because you lost my prescription and then were unbelievably rude to my partner. I’m so angry!
