Background - Having qualified twice from Heriot-Watt University in Landscape Architecture and Town Planning, I worked several years in local authorities, private practices and in Australia establishing my own business in 1990. Appointments - I have been appointed as a regional design consultant for several product manufacturers who have recognised the quality of my service and recommend me to their clients.

Experience - with over 20 years experience I am able to meet the expectations of any client and deliver a great service with value for money. Reputation - I have never lost a business contact in over 20 years and obtain most of my work from recommendations because of the quality and reliability of my service.
Services
Individually tailored service for each client and project, creating stunning designer gardens for home owners and commercial projects. Technical skills and design experience from over 20 years ensure each design complements the quality and character of any architecture whilst making the most of your space and budget.
To Start - Most projects begin with an initial discussion over the phone to get an outline of what a client wants and how I can help. Initial telephone discussions are of course free of charge but survey and sketch designs are chargeable relative to the scale of work needed.

Timing - The earlier I am involved the more benefits I can deliver for the same fee and I regularly coordinate with Architects, Engineers, Builders and Planners to design work for later phases.References - I can of course give you any references you need if you have not come to me from a recommendation.
This was a very large property needing a master plan design for a large front garden and driveway with new entrance and a large rear garden that wrapped around the house. The challenge was to achieve a meaningful and attractive use of such large spaces in a coherent style that suited and complemented the high quality architecture and created effective focal point features.
This should be one of the first questions a client asks a designer but it is a surprisingly late consideration for most. My answer is yes! One of my most experienced skills is advising instantly what any element, material, detail, style or layout is likely to. Read the rest of this article.

Seeding or planting wild flower areas has become very popular with local authorities and parks departments in recent years to create a fabulous colourful display that often lasts longer than seasonal bedding plant. It is amazing when you see the positive impact of new well designed buildings and extensions on a property and its' outdoor spaces.
These are some of my reviews from Google and Facebook; recorded here because Google especially often remove reviews, if that person is not active on Google and I want to safeguard the efforts of my clients sharing their experience of my service. Martin is extremely personable and from the outset listened carefully to what our objectives were and how the garden was to fit in with our renovation plans.

We asked Martin to come and design our garden as the space is rather a weird shape and we had no idea how to make it work for us and our needs. Martin was great at being able to to take our ideas and put them into a design that not only works for us but will make us want to spend time in the garden. Martin spent 4 hours with us drawing and measuring the garden then helping us decide what we wanted and how to make it workable.
Martin was recommended to us. He was very professional and I would highly recommend him.

Martin came highly recommend by a number of our neighbours and we can see why. We had some basic ideas of how we wanted our back garden to look to become more manageable and practical for our 3 children. Being a new build there was also the question of poor drainage and that the garden had naturally settled into a sloped area on one side.
Martin spent a good few hours in the garden listening and asking specific questions which allowed him to pull together a plan that was beyond our expectations. He went through a number of options and their positives and negatives (such as decking vs tiles) which

We contacted Martin after reading the positive reviews.
We had just moved into a new build and had no idea what to do with our garden!
Martin took time to chat with us about how we wanted to use the garden.
He suggested so many options we hadn't considered and his ideas were spot on.
The plans arrived shortly after our meeting.
We used Goodman's Landscaping and were delighted with the end result!
The garden is low maintenance and always looks tidy with little effort.
The service offered is invaluable and well worth investing in.
So much so that we will shortly be contacting Martin again

Martin has just supplied a wonderful design to give our small, very overgrown garden a complete makeover. In addition he has come up with a design to improve the look of the front of our house by adding additional planting areas to our drive. He took into account exactly what we were looking for from the garden including ease of maintenance and… how we planned to use the garden in future. He discussed potential materials and how these would fit in to the design. We had thought that having a designer draw up a plan for our garden was out of our price range but we were pleasantly surprised

We used Martin after he was recommended by the landscape gardener, due to the structural changes that were required for our garden. Our garden consisted of 5 levels (mostly decking). We wanted it all removed and put back to 2 levels with patio/turf instead. Not only did he come up with a solid plan to do that, he came up with ideas we would never have thought of, managed to do it within a tight budget and his ideas will utilise the space so much better. The plan looks fantastic, everything has a function and it actually makes the garden look bigger. We cannot wait to see it come to life when work

Martin was recommended to me by the company I had chosen to do my garden makeover. Well, I am so pleased I took their advice and contacted him. Martin is very professional, extremely knowledgeable, he listened to my thoughts for the makeover and came up with an outline design. Throughout the process, Martin advised me what would work within my budget, issues that I would not have thought of and provided solutions. The initial consultation took 3 hours and we had an draft design for the garden.
I received the colour design, very impressed, along with the design, Martin had included tips, suggestions

I've used Martin on four occasions now. Why? Because as I've learned the hard way, there is no point in spending '000's on your garden if it doesn't have the right design.
We used Martin Watt at our last house after a recommendation from not one but two of our friends. Martin took a "standard new-build garden" on a slope and gave us a design which we could implement in phases as our budget allowed. We were so impressed, we had the front garden redesigned too and the neighbours started to copy the themes of Martin's design - they didn't look as good as each plot is unique and really needs it's

Very pleased with the service & attention to detail that Martin gave me when designing the layout & additional drainage for my front, side & rear gardens. Martin came up with lots of fresh ideas that I hadn't thought about & which all made it much easier to maintain. Martin spent a great deal of time & effort ensuring I got what I really wanted & his visits to ensure that the plans were spot on were really appreciated. Thanks Martin, Ian.

Martin helped massively with a steep new garden mud slope.
Taking our brief he created a wonderfully useful terraced design which created play space on 2 levels for the kids, a deck/sun trap area for adults and my favourite bit a wild garden with fire pit for sausage sizzles and melted marsh mallows! Delicious.
Professional. Punctual. … Proactive.
He quite rightly challenged our initial concepts and worked collaboratively with us to deliver the result we craved.
The up front cost for the design was money well spent allowing our family to shape our requirements on our blank, yet muddy, back

Very excited about the design concepts Martin has created for our Garden. It was a treat to see our and his ideas brought to life in sketches and then expert drawings full of colour and detail. We received both… great ideas and practical advice on materials and plants always with a budget in mind. Always worth spending time and some budget on the planning!
Looking forward to getting the inside finished so we can get stuck into the outside.
Very impressed Andy Hall

After the amazing results to Martin’s design for our back garden, we had no hesitation in asking him back to design our front garden. Martin came up with a perfect design which gave us the needed parking… spaces, but also included an eye catching area for trees, shrubs and flowers. All in all, fantastic designs for both front and back gardens.
