We are Ireland's first veterinary practice dedicated to equine dentistry offering routine, advanced and referral dentistry services for horses. The practice was started in 2012 by Carolyn Perkins MRCVS Ireland's only BAEDT qualified veterinary surgeon. Setting up the Equine Dental Clinic at her farm in Hillsborough was the obvious progression for Carolyn to be able to welcome clients from all parts of Ireland.
The facilities include modern looseboxes, purpose built equine stocks for safe handling of sedated patients, video endoscopy and a full range of motorised, water cooled, dental floats for treating all types of dental problems. There are toilets and car parking on site and the location of the clinic, just 5 minutes from the M1 motorway at Sprucefield and A1 from Newry make it extremely accessible from all areas.

After attending Carolyn for a procedure with my mare, I have to say I am totally delighted with the expertise, knowledge and professional care given. My mare was in a lot of pain and was quidding more than she was eating. She also had had a previous unpleasant experience with being sedated.
Carolyn's calm, relaxed and confident manner meant the mare was sedated in seconds with no issues or complications and the procedure was completed with no stress or pain.At all times Carolyn showed and explained what was going on and at the end offered excellent advice and post procedure guidelines.

Your vet will check the foal when it is born to identify any bite or palate issues. Otherwise the first check-up should ideally carried out 3 months prior to 'backing' or start of training to allow any wolf teeth present to be removed and the sockets to heal. Wolf teeth appear around 18 months and if not lost through natural shedding by three years of age they will need to be extracted.
