There is a lot of information on the about Osteopathy page regarding regulation of the profession, a little bit about the history of Osteopathy and information regarding the process involved in training to become an Osteopath. You can also read the testimonials written by a number of patients with injuries and acute and chronic conditions ranging from back pain and pregnancy-related pain to sports injuries.
Osteopathy is a manual therapy that aims to improve bodily health and well being by treating and strengthening the body's skeleton and joint function, muscles and soft tissue while positively affecting the nervous, circulatory and lymphatic systems and internal organs. Osteopaths recognise the importance of the link between the structure of the human body and the way it functions.
Each Osteopath varies the treatment modalities they use to treat their patients (although they obviously keep within the parameters set by the regulators the General Osteopathic Council). In addition, there are pages giving information on dry-needling (modern acupuncture) and cranial osteopathy which Fiona also uses as appropriate.
Cranial Osteopathy is a subtle and gentle type of osteopathic treatment which can help to relieve tension and everyday stress patterns that have built up throughout the body. The treatment itself involves the delicate manipulation of the cranial and spinal bones in order to restore the cranial rhythm.
Discal problems (including prolapsed or herniated discs otherwise known as slipped discs) - discs are found between each vertebra of the spine. They are like tyres made of ligamentous material and fluid which act as shock absorbers to help spread the load when we lift and carry things. Discal problems occur most frequently occur in the lower back but they can also occur in the neck with symptoms radiating into the arm(s).

My 6 month old baby girl was suffering from symptoms of colic and not sleeping at all so after doing some research and listening to advice from other mums I decided to give cranial osteopathy a go and I'm so glad I did! Baby girl had 3 sessions in total and even after the first session the difference in her was amazing. She now goes down to sleep far easier than before without arching her back and crying. She still wakes up several times during the night but she has had longer stretches of sleep and can easily be settled again in 5/10 minutes instead of the hour long night wakes we had previously

I took my 6 week old baby to see Fiona for Cranial Osteopathy. Before our first visit my baby was unsettled, unhappy and generally seemed uncomfortable and in pain with ‘colicky’ symptoms. We had 3 appointments with Fiona and after every appointment we saw massive improvements and I am pleased to say we now have a (mostly) content and comfortable baby. Had a few appointments myself too to try and sort my very sore back and always feel 10 foot taller when I leave.

After doing lots of research for reflux and colic in my baby girl, I decided to give cranial osteopathy a try. I was very apprehensive at first, however Fiona made me feel really at ease. We’ve been to two treatments and already she is a different baby! Hoping one more treatment with Fiona will be enough to have cured her. She is finally relaxed and sleep in her crib alone instead of on top of me and upright. What a difference - definitely worth every penny!

After hours of research to help find a solution to my baby's reflux and colick symptoms as well as changing my diet, getting her tongue tie revised etc. I finally made the decision to look for a practitioner in cranial bodywork. I chose Fiona at Essential Osteopathy and saw immediate improvement after the first session. The intense constant crying almost completely stopped, the projectile vomiting became less frequent and for the first time she lay on her mat and played without crying and did tummy time without having a fit.
We've had a total of three sessions and each one resulted in further

Fiona helped me through two pregnancies when I had pelvic girdle pain and rib pain. I genuinely don't know how I would have coped through both pregnancies without her. She was professional, friendly and incredibly knowledgeable in her field. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her or go to her again.

I’ve had a great experience with Fiona, helping with pain in my jaw and neck caused from teeth clenching. She listens to what works and what doesn’t, and adjusts her treatment accordingly.
I feel she has taken COVID-19 measures very seriously and feel as safe as possible when having my treatment done. We both wear medical-grade face masks and it is obvious that thorough cleaning is done between sessions.

Having had severe back pain since for a few years it flared up badly at the start of lockdown and I was what I can only describe as a 'tetris' shape. After only a couple of appointments with Fiona I felt a massive improvement and I can not recommend her highly enough.
I was a little apprehensive at first due to the Government announcement about safety measures but I can honestly say there was no need to worry at all. Fiona is very helpful and the treatment was not impacted at all. The process is very clear and Fiona is so well organised that you are made to feel safe and comfortable from the moment

I was suffering from neck pain for 4 weeks, after one session with Fiona, not only did the pain ease tremendously my overall outlook in life changed. Fiona got to the root of the issues I had been experiencing, something several doctors could not do. Best money I have spent and I thoroughly look forward to seeing her each week. Can't recommend enough!

I went to see Fiona with upper back, neck and shoulder pain and I thought her approach was excellent. Within an hour she had assessed and diagnosed me and discussed a treatment plan. Fiona is very knowledgeable and has a caring and empathetic approach which left me feeling much less worried about my injury. Within 2 weeks of doing her exercises and getting her deep tissue massage my pain started to subside. You are definitely in safe hands if you chose to see Fiona!

Fiona treated my 5 week old daughter who had been very unsettled from 2/3 weeks old. I noticed improvements after the first treatment with her being a lot happier during awake times and continued with a further 2 sessions. I felt very comfortable with Fiona carrying out the treatment on my daughter, she is very friendly and professional. I would highly recommend!
