Batheaston Chairmakers
Before furniture makers we were wheelwrights. Richard Gill came from an unbroken line of wheelwrights stretching back to the 16th century, working in premises that housed the profession for generations before him. He and his family used the same techniques as their ancestors to build beautiful and traditional carriages.

At the time there was increasing popularity for horse and carriage driving, as there were many people who appreciated the elegance, comfort and practicality of a traditional vehicle. The skills were very much in demand, keeping the Gill family busy not just restoring valuable old vehicles but also building new ones.
Services
Batheaston has become a name to trust and a sure sign that a piece of furniture has been made to last, with no compromise and an unprecedented attention to detail. Starting at the beginning of the process, the Gill family carefully select their oak and ash trees from sustainable woodlands, making sure they are the highest quality.
The key to producing wonderful furniture is giving each individual piece an antique patina to simulate years of use. This is largely a hand process and down to the flair and imagination of the person doing the job; almost a quarter of our time is involved in this process. Chairs are made in Ash and tables and cabinets are made in Oak.
Items offered at sale discount are usually ex floor display, ex showroom or end of line individual pieces. Certain Windsor chair seats, although displaying wonderful timber grain may have minor flaws but still remain structurally sound. Discounted prices do not include delivery but you are very welcome to collect from our showrooms near Harrogate by appointment or ask us to get you a quote for delivery.
Deliveries are made by our specialist carrier who is used to handling fine art and precious items. For overseas please get in touch with your address and we will get back to you with a quote for carriage. Coasters or place mats should be used where possible, especially when using hot plates and cups.
