Arrived in Pia as general dogsbody in 1999, and now that I'm MD, nothing's changed! Got to being where I am by interfering, asking questions, wanting improvements and generally getting on everyone's nerves. Spend my days marketing, being strategic, getting creative and learning! My colleagues often wonder what I do all day, so hopefully they'll read this and find out.
Pia was founded in 1985 as a typesetting co-operative designing and producing printing plates. The first major publishing contract was to publish the BBC's In Touch Handbook, which accompanied the Radio 4 programme for people with visual impairment. This involved the significant challenge to publish the handbook simultaneously in braille, large print and audio, which was a first for UK publishing.
With 12,000 people relying on braille in the UK, our text to braille transcription and production service ensures your organisation is accessible to customers who rely on braille. I am collaborating with Pia for a project that aims to make museums more inclusive and accessible for people with visual impairments. We're working on creating and printing a raised line drawing booklet. The people from Pia have been incredibly professional, kind, caring and responsive. It's clear that they care a lot about what they do, and the quality of their work is amazing. We just received a sample of one of the drawings and we are very excited!

I had an idea to have a poem I'd written for my Aunt and Uncle's 60th Wedding Anniversary transcribed into braille as a surprise for my Uncle who is blind. I left some details with Pia through their website's enquiry page not knowing what to expect but I needn't have worried as Rhian who I later spoke to reassured me that they could meet the time frame I had remaining. Her cheerful enthusiasm and willingness to help, put me at ease straight away. I received the braille card on time and it was carefully packaged to prevent it getting bent in the post too - I appreciate fully what they have done
