The ABPI exists to make the UK the best place in the world to research, develop and use new medicines and vaccines. We represent companies of all sizes who invest in discovering the medicines of the future. Our members supply cutting edge treatments that improve and save the lives of millions of people.
We work in partnership with Government and the NHS so patients can get new treatments faster and the NHS can plan how much it spends on medicines. Every day, we partner with organisations in the life sciences community and beyond to transform lives across the UK. We want the UK to be the best place in the world to research, develop and use the medicines and vaccines of the future.

We're helping to build a thriving environment for medicine discovery so the UK can be the best place in the world to research and develop new medicines and vaccines. The UK has a long-standing reputation for research into medicine and advances in basic science mean we understand diseases better than we've ever done before. Clinical trials are essential for testing whether a medicine is safe and effective, but really its only the first step. They need to be monitored and regulated for their whole lifetime.
The ABPI is working to ensure that the UK has the best relationship with the EU for patients, public health and the life sciences sector. Both sides have agreed to explore medicines cooperation in the Political Declaration. This ambition remains both in the UK Government's negotiating objectives and in the EU Commission's negotiating mandate.
The ABPI offers qualifications in the ethical promotion of prescription medicines for industry representatives. The ABPI Exam is mandatory for all medical representatives working for companies who have agreed to abide by the ABPI Code of Practice for the Pharmaceutical Industry. It helps to make sure that all industry representatives have the understanding they need to promote medicines.
Medicines are transforming our lives like never before. We want the UK to be the best place in the world to research, develop and use the medicines of the future. Medicines and vaccines have played a crucial role in increasing UK life expectancy by 11 years since 1960. Over the last 40 years, cancer survival rates have doubled, and HIV/AIDS has been transformed into a chronic, manageable condition.
