HOUSE OF BRUAR CANTEEN/ RESTAURANT
Lack of Staff and poor service. Really disappointing.
We where trying to figure out how the canteen worked. No one approached us to offer us any help. We felt really lost.
For that price I would expect a better service. Someone that could guide us better. Having someone approaching to costumers that they look a bit lost and explaining them a bit how it worked. It would have been a much nicer experience .
Also it could do with better signage for the Toilets.
We needed to find someone that could indicated us where they were because we were unable to find them

I bought from the online store about two years ago and the quality of the blazer/it's fit was absolutely top notch. Absolutely worth every penny.
HOWEVER, the online service is atrocious, slow and inefficient. I decided to order again from the store over a week ago and the payment system gave me hell. I finally managed to get the payment through, but received no confirmation.I followed up to ask for a confirmation both through the online chat system and email... no response. I followed up again... no response.
I am giving them a day after which I am cancelling the payment. Excellent quality but

A very enjoyable experience (but very busy) and so much products and produce to choose from. Available items from clothes, food, confectionery, fresh fruit and veg, alcohol, restaurant and a fish and chips takeaway that offers lobster (not a normal offering in a chippy 😀) well worth a visit when in the vicinity. 👍👌

Expensive but extensive range of foods and clothing. The only place in Scotland where we found tins of Moffat Toffees. Bought some and Clootie Dumplings. Had a Scotch Pie and a slice of game pie, nice. Country clothing for when you're out in the Glen is good. Antiques section had some nice items. Sadly there were no Arbroath Smokies this time.

If you have money to burn this is the place to go - but maybe not on a busy Saturday as social distancing was Not A Thing. Good range of expensive products from clothes to cheese. Snacks from canteen are £5, Meals are £12 to £20 for a wee portion and a wee cup of coffee. Bathrooms are super clean and tidy and exceptionally well kept♡ good range of fresh fruit and veg and plants too. Easy to find and large car park. Easy disabled access for parking and entering building.

Popped in because the girlfriend needed a new pair of slippers and at £22, like most of the gear on sale here, it is rather expensive and for those with cash going spare.
Also tried the fish suppers from the small Fish & Chippy outside selling lobster suppers for £40. Unfortunately we went for the standard Haddock fish and chip supper which was dreadful. Fish batter was crunchy and full of oil that just poured out when you bit into it, tasteless dry fish, so not well fried or using old oil methinks. Chips were even worse, too fat , overcooked, dry and gave me the boak!
Bit of a disappointment

Very nice place to shop around and to eat . Nice and exquisite clothing for men , woman and children .
They got handbags , shirts , skirts , dresses , coats , jackets , shoes etc . They got a big collection for men as well . But it's a bit on the expensive side . If they can look into the prices that would be really good , i mean people would be able to spend more freely . 🙂
You can get fish and chips when you need a break after doing shopping or visiting around , it tastes awesome . They got a nice variety . You can get scottish icecream as well which was just yum.😋

Retail experience close to the A9. Large store with many good items in a large Food Hall. Large restaraunt with a somewhat limited and pricey menu. Coffee and Hot Chocolate are tasty but from machines. Outdoor seating available under large glazed roof.
On same site is a ladies clothing store and Fish n Chips shop.
Large car park but lacks benches for seating and a kids play area.

House of Bruar reminded me a lot of Harrod's of London. Everywhere I have visited in Scotland is nicely removed from England in many ways including less commercialism and less ostentatious displays of wealth. This mixed shopping emporium was just so out of place in the Scottish Highlands. It was spotlessly clean inside, everything seemed brand new and too perfect. Prices were high to match the fancy venue. It was an odd experience that was without a doubt the least Scottish thing I ever saw in Scotland. My opinion is that this is a tourist trap aimed mainly at the English going on holiday

Was looking for winter clothing and came upon this darling shop in Scotland. I ordered 3 lambswool Tartan scarves. The place is called the "Harrods of the North," obviously posh and high end. Look for items on sale, as the Great Britain pound is higher in U.S. dollars. They take credit cards online so it's easy to shop. Takes about two weeks to receive your items.

This is a charming pit-stop while driving up north to the Highlands. They have several food shops and outlit stores that definielty make this worth a visit.
The stores are classy and warm, and my husband and I enjoyed wondering around and window shopping. From sheep wool, to outdoor fishing, hiking and camping equipement, they also have quite a few large department stores that offer decorative home goods.

This is a religious stop whenever traveling north/south to visit family. Plenty of food choices, lots to looks at for shopping and car snacks and a lovely walk if you have the time. I would say though that it gets extremely busy so if you're not inclined to be near any people after being crammed in your car for however long then this probably isn't the place for you. However with that in mind it's busy, but not packed. The layout is good and you can easily meander past Dorris and her large shopping trolly of woolens she's got on sale. As I say we don't ever miss going.

Do not bring your wife if you want to leave within 4 hours! Seriously my wife did an evening prayer as she found Mecca! Great food, wine and shopping in a casual setting selling everything Scottish you could ever want.. I joke about my wife but she is not a shopper and this place just exudes quality for reasonable prices.

Amazing place! I've driven passed this place a couple of times and never thought of checking it out, but I finally did... thank goodness I did! If you're a total foodie and you love going to specialty food stores, this is the place! There's several stores that make up this compound of shops, but the main one is the food shop. It has tons and tons of Scottish food and bake goods, meats, sauces, cheese, wine, spirits... everything you can think of, they probably have it! While they specialise in Scottish and British, they also sell international things. They have a couple of American

My company have dealt with house of Bruar for many years. Customers should be aware of the very high margins that they work on, many things are cheap quality but with own label that gives impressions of high quality.
I would urge all not to support this business and shop in near by PITLOCHRY where you'll find choice and value without being ripped off.

Can't really disagree with any of the previous reviews. House of Bruar has grown into an iconic destination for visitors to the north, travelling the barren A9. It's a veritable oasis in the desert of heather and rocks that is the highlands of Scotland.
The food is fairly pricey, but from the hoards that you'll be competing with if you visit at the peak of the lunchtime trade, no one is complaining too much. I stopped at Bruars for my trip up North on the A9 and snooped around this place to find out what the fuzz was about.
There is no doubt that they have amazing goodies on display, starting from well named clothing and accessory lines, like H. Tweet, to fancy pottery and fresh fruits and veggies being sold on wooden stands. You can also find their own delicatessen section and restaurant. The prices are extortionate. For a soup and bread I paid £5. I found a seat on one of the tables in the conservatory.
Its a brilliant place to buy some presents for special occasions or a souvenir to take home.

This place is just of the A9 and a handy place to stock up on a tweed jacket or two or some fruit cake or a pork pie!
It has nice toilets. This is good as it's before the drumotcher or after (depends which way you are heading). It always seems to be well stocked and tidy too.
Inside the foos shop you have a deli, butcher and massive fridge section - smoked salmon, olives, crab pate and cheeses - you name it! The also have a cafe where you can get soup, sandwich, roast of the day or just a scone and many other treats. Coffee and tea and be purchased here too. It isnt' cheap though

By all accounts this place should be a lame, tourist-filled nightmare to be avoided at all costs. And yet, it's got a restaurant full of tasty eats and a shop with more homemade jams than you could ever hope to enjoy.
The restaurant is cafeteria-style, with a range from soup with crusty bread to freshly-cooked fried fish and steak-and-ale pie. The prices are in line with standard pubs and restaurants in Scotland (~10 GBP for mains).
I didn't care much for the clothing shops, but if you're keen on wool or tartan then they've got you covered to the nines. The culinary shop,

Love going here for a day out and shopping. The food is very very good and the clothes are the best and the staff very helpful. The whole place is set up for there customers and make everyone welcome. The art gallery has all the Scottish art you could ask for and well laid out. We always stop on our way north and back.

The House of Bruar is kind of a must-visit when travelling north. You could actually spend hours here exploring their several buildings full of clothes, art, food, and anything else you may possibly need when rubbing shoulders with the posh and fabulous.
We tend to stick to the food hall where we stock up on fabulous meats, cheeses and veggies to sustain us in the barren north. Lunch is an occasional treat here as well, though I think I use the term "treat" somewhat loosely as the food hall is not really much more than a really really really fancy (and often incredibly packed) cafeteria
