Services
After establishing Bishops in 2004 we have now relocated to 92/93 Great Russell St, next door to the British Museum, a fantastic location in central London with a large showroom enabling visitors to try instruments in a larger space. With an extensive collection ranging from the world's finest contemporary craftsmen to the old masters Stradivari and Guadagnini, our clients include students, amateurs and professionals of all levels.
Along with this we able to help value your instrument or bow, certify it's authenticity, recommend insurance and help with CiTes issues. With more than 2000 sales and 30 years as an instrument dealer Sean is happy to help you with an insurance valuation. The market moves extremely quickly and we have seen many string players caught out with old valuations that do not reflect the latest valuations.
After studying violin and viola in Australia and the UK I worked with London's finest orchestras including English Chamber Orchestra, The Philharmonia, BBC Symphony and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Throughout my musical life I have had a passion for string instruments.

I was fortunate when growing up to almost live next door to two violin shops and it was this daily contact that influenced me to study all aspects of violin makers and bows as well as pursuing some violin making of my own.I have a special interest in the modern Italian school of making (Pedrazzini, Fagnola, Scarampella, Ornati, Garimberti etc.) as well as the instruments of JB Vuillaume.
London Has a great tradition in fine musical instruments and bows, with Auctions, dealers and seemingly millions of musicians! In 2004 Bishop Instruments & Bows established our Central London shop in South Molton Street, just around the corner from where it all started over 100 years previous with W. E. Hill & Sons.
Over the last 15 years I have been lucky to employ some of the best repairers, musicians and experts London can offer. Our new shop, next door to the British Museum, will allow us to offer that personal one on one service that has been synonymous with Bishop instruments & bows. I have now been involved as an instrument dealer for over 25 years and this is my 3rd London shop!
