Talking to patients in the past made us realise that a majority prefer to give their business to local independent opticians as they appreciate the personal care that comes with the service - but are drawn to attractive offers made by chain opticians. The idea of Iconic Opticians came from a professional wish to offer a personal and individualised service, yet with very competitive prices.
We believe in taking our time with our patients and never rushing during an eye examination, hence all our examinations take at least 45 minutes (as opposed to the rushed 20 minutes eye test offered by most chains). Patients over the age of 70 or under the age of 7 automatically get a 1 hour slot. This allows a thorough eye examination, including a photo of the retina (fundus picture) at no additional cost.
The Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scans the different layers of the back of the eye through 3D scanning technology. This allows us to examine the structure of the retina and the optic nerve in much greater detail compared to traditional retinal photography which only captures a simple picture of the retina.
Our MECS Practitioner will ask for a history of your present problem, any past eye and medical history, medications, allergies and family history of eye disease. They will assess your vision and examine your eyes. They may also use drops to enlarge your pupils, which may affect your vision for a few hours (in which case you will be advised not to drive).
Glaucoma is a common eye condition where the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain, becomes damaged. It can lead to loss of vision if it's not diagnosed and treated early. Glaucoma does not usually cause any symptoms to begin with. It tends to develop slowly over many years and affects the edges of your vision first.

Having worn glasses for over 25 years, I can honestly say without any doubt Dinesh and his team are hands down by far the best opticians in the Plymouth, Tavistock and surrounding areas. The level of service, range of stock and aftercare can not be bettered - nothing is too much trouble.
Will be visiting the fantastic new branch in Tavistock again shortly to purchase some new sunglasses.

I have been using Dinesh and his team at Iconic Opticians for the past 5 years and I will be using them for all my eye needs for the foreseeable future. The team as a whole has always been very transparent on what glasses suited me and have been absolutely brillaint throughout start to finish. A superb service at this Opticians in Plymouth. Dinesh and the others in the team are so helpful and friendly and offer a expert service. I love the calm and efficient atmosphere in the shop where I was given time to choose frames and lens without feeling rushed...I was also given lots of help in making my choice which I found invaluable as I'd attended the appointment on my own. Glasses were ready on time and I love them! Can't recommend this business highly enough.

My lens fell out of my glasses, so had to rely on an old spare pair. I messaged Iconic and they said to pop along and they would fix. I was greeted by Sam, who quickly fixed my lens and replaced the nose pads, as he noticed they were well worn. Start to finish a fantastic experience, and my wife and I will definitely be back for our annual eye test and new glasses, if required.
