We are a small independent coffee shop in Edinburgh, Scotland, established in 2015. We are passionate about serving delicious plant based coffees and food, sourcing our products ethically, and trying to reduce our impact on the planet. We're proud to be 100% vegan for the animals, the people and the planet. We love to be the go-to neighbourhood cafe for many of our lovely customers and always warmly welcome new faces in our shop! See you all very soon!:

Chapter One Coffee Shop first opened its doors in 2015. The idea was to provide a cosy spot for good food and coffee for the Haymarket and Dalry communities. From the start, we prioritised sourcing the most ethical and local products. As our business has grown, our ethics have developed with it.
In 2018, we decided to go fully plant-based, because selling animal products no longer aligned with our core values of living harmoniously in the world with other humans and animals.Although it was an intimidating decision, it was also the best decision we ever made and we've experienced endless love and support from our amazing customers in the local area, elsewhere in Scotland and all around the world.

Since we opened in 2015, we have looked for and found the best suppliers in Scotland, who prioritise sourcing and production ethics, environmental commitment, and of course, taste and quality of products. Our amazing beans are supplied by Dear Green roastery in Glasgow, and Machina Espresso in Edinburgh.
For a perfect start of the day, enjoy a beautiful stack of sweet French toast, smothered in dairy-free yoghurt, blueberries and syrup. Although they've been open since 2015, Chapter One Coffee Shop went 100% vegan in summer 2019 and have been getting nothing but positive feedback ever since. Located in the student heavy Dalry area, this dog friendly cafe is the kind of place you can sit in for a while and you'll not feel rushed if you linger.

Really nice cafe with good coffee and lovely food.
I've been in a few times now and the staff have been friendly.
The space is simple and small but does exactly what you need to meet with friends for lunch or cuppa.
The only thing that surprised me after my third visit was the staff informed me everything is vegan. Which I'm totally fine with, I normally prefer a vegetarian/vegan option when I'm out as my husband is 100% a meat eater.
I know there is something on the menu but I didn't look at it, I was looking at the glass cabinet to pick something from that and the description on the glass

I was waiting ten minutes where neither of the staff acknowledged me or my partner then she eventually came over said she was sorry and that they were extremely busy and all I said was that table over there are we able to for it to clear it and she’s like I’m really sorry food orders are going to be atleast 25 minutes and we close at three o’clock… I didn’t like here tone of voice or attitude when speaking with me and further more she didn’t clear the table until the manager asked if I was ok then went to sit at the table when she said I will take your order

Had the french toast with bacon and it was delicious! So much flavour and sweetness, absolutely brilliant. The coffee was a little on the colder side but still completely drinkable! In fact that meant it got downed in under 10 minutes because it still tasted delicious! Nice warm, welcoming and enthusiastic staff!

I've been meaning to visit this coffee shop since they opened but although it's local, it's not somewhere I pass by much on my way to and from work. We finally got the chance to stop by today to catch up with a… friend and I wish I had visited sooner! The staff were friendly, the food selection was excellent and the French toast we had was out of this world. The next time I'm meeting friends, I will definitely be back and I've already told other friends about this local independent coffee shop!

Lovely Coffee close to Haymarket or Fountainbridge. In Coffee are two ladies who worked really hard when I was there and I saw that they, at least, like what they do. And it was visible on quality and taste their products. Cinnamon Swirl and blueberry croissant was amazing. Cappuccino wasn't the best from best, but was only small minus compared to the rest.
Interior was clean, they have toilets and accepting card. They also had winter coffee specialities.

Great little coffee shop to stop in and have great service and quality! We only stopped in for coffee and pastries, but there were many other food options that looked really good! The prices were all very affordable and the staff was very friendly and helpful. When we went it was a tad busy, but there are plenty of tables so that wasn't an issue. Overall great local shop and if you are nearby it is definitely worth stopping in for good coffee and food!

A new cafe with character on Dalry road!!!
Nice bright interior, big windows, display with croissants and sandwiches made fresh in the place!
The guy that runs the place is very friendly, passionate for making a good coffee and offering high quality service!!!
I have tried their coffees and have been always pleased. I noticed they have porridge in their menu so I'm going to try it soon as I have been informed that it's freshly made with milk.
Lastly, they do a small discount when you bring your own cup for take away and they do have a loyalty card: 8th coffee for free!

I must have blinked because suddenly the very last century (dare I say even 90's) style copy/internet shop that was at this corner morphed into a cozy looking coffee shop!
They still have the internet shop but split it up in two, so its is connected with a door to the coffee place, what a very smart business move! The neighbourhood could definitely use another option for coffees, and the offer of pastries and sandwiches is small but very nice! I'll be over a lot more as its on my way from home to town, happy this got added to the neighbourhood! And good to still have a place to gt my

Chapter One is a lovely little coffee shop near Haymarket on Dalry Road with an Internet room adjacent to the coffee shop.
I have been passing this place a few times now besides eagerly awaiting the opening day. And then the day had come. I ordered a regular latte. The other choice would have been a large. However, having had a close look at the take away cup size the regular cup size looks rather like a small.
Hmmm, not so sure the take away cup sizes do it for me as I opt to drink at least a medium. I will try a sit in option soon.

It's good to have a place with such good coffee on offer in this part of the city, but it was really strange to see Matthew Algie (very poor) and Dear Green (very good) both served, so be careful to express a preference when ordering. The sandwiches looked good, and the breakfast roll I had was tasty stuff.
Overall, we said: "I was really pleased with Chapter One. It brings much needed coffee quality to this part of town so I can see myself being a regular visitor. You should pay it a visit next time you're in these parts as I'm confident you'll be impressed."
