Designer Metal is based in Elmsett in Suffolk, England. Started in the nineties, by Xavier Cooper, it originally offered bespoke iron work projects to private clients. Since then it has become one of the main providers of country iron work in the UK. We now specialise in Estate Fencing & Metal Tree Guards.
Every year we install many miles of traditional estate fencing, all of which is manufactured by us in our workshops in Suffolk. We are very proud of our range of metal tree guards and have refined our manufacturing process to such a degree that we now go toe to toe on price with importers, whilst still offering home grown quality.

Every year Designer Metal installs and supplies thousands of metres of traditional iron fencing and metal tree guards - for estates, parks and farms all over the UK. The use of generous steel sections and our unique method of installation, gives our estate fencing great rigidity and strength. You will truly be investing in a last-a-lifetime fence that will be enjoyed by generations to come.
Fence posts are driven in or concreted and the rail then simply threaded through and welded. Supplied unpainted, our traditional estate fencing can be left to colour naturally with no loss of structural integrity. In order to offer customers the complete package we can supply 20mm round bar, 25x8mm flat bar and 16mm round bar in 6 metre lengths.
Our smallest metal tree guards. An economic and attractive way of protecting smaller saplings. Strong welded steel construction. The upright gaps are no greater than 9.4cms. Each iron tree guard is split able (scroll down the page for fitting instructions) for easy fitting to existing trees and re-use.
40x12mm spines, 40x40x5mm T section top & bottom horizontals, 25x25x5mm angle-iron middle horizontals and braces with 60604 box section posts capped with forged balls. 40x12mm spines, 26.9mm tube top horizontal, 30x12mm flat bar bottom horizontal, 25x8mm flat bar middle horizontals and braces with 60604 box section posts capped with forged balls.
Designer Metal deer fencing is built to last. 50x12mm posts @1m centres driven 1m into the ground, a solid 20mm round top rail and eight 25x8mm flat rails on edge below. It stands 8 feet tall and weighs 3.15 tonnes per 100m. As with our estate fencing we install a continuous welded system, allowing us to follow ground contours and curves beautifully.

After scouring the UK for a traditional looking and high quality estate fencing supplier I finally selected Designer Metal. The product looked good, they were competitive on price, they were a family business and they had a website that made everything clear (great videos!). The order was a short 23m run of their supply-only estate fencing with a gate kit (+ tools). Quite a bit of elbow grease later and some help from my father-in-law welder and the job looks great. I know other buyers that sing their praises too. Can’t recommend them enough!
