Telephone Lines Managing Director, Malcolm Percival's love of telephones might have started by chance when he accepted an old telephone in lieu of rent but it has proved to be an enduring passion! He now has over 40 years of experience and dedication to the location, renovation and selling of old telephones.
These tend to be the earlier phones or phones of particular collectible interest, usually due to their rarity. Because of the nature of these telephones, ie their age and the way they have been treated over the years and how well they have been restored, their condition will vary. Added to that, within one type of telephone, features may vary, some pieces may have something unusual about them which makes them a little more special.
Phones we have put under this heading would tend to be early phones that have dials and thus are fully functioning units. The price that we have quoted here is for a telephone which has been converted to work, which is of average condition with only acceptable wear and tear associated with the age of an item and which has been fully restored by our engineers and thoroughly cleaned.
The first of these was the universally acclaimed Ericaphone. The design of this phone was made possible by the miniaturization of components and the use of plastic. It was initially developed in 1954. Since then, there have been many famous designers who have been involved in the "architecture" of telephones.
There are the fun phones that are just that; the simple cat, dog, pig, lips, shoe and others. Then there is the genre of phones which are associated with cult media characters like those from Disney, Space Films, the Simpsons and other current shows. As time passes these phones become symbols of an era or style and become collectible.
