Our integrated approach aims to tackle the source of trouble before it becomes problematic. We are dedicated to wellness. We are located within the easily accessible Calmer Clinics and enjoy a spacious modern environment as part of the Fitness Spa facilities. The practice caters to a wide variety of people from professional and keen amateur sportsmen and women to babies and children, the elderly and expectant mothers.

All can benefit from our integrated approach which aims to get to the source of trouble as well as detecting potential issues before they become problematic. After graduating from the British School of Osteopathy in 1993, David established the Osteopathic practice at Dolphin Square, now based at Calmer Clinics.

Although we are experts at bringing together many different therapeutic ingredients, one of our core approaches is often labelled 'Cranial Osteopathy'. This is a system within Osteopathy developed in early 1900 by the American Osteopath William Sutherland. He believed that in order for the brain and central nervous system to function properly, the bones of the skull must be free to move in a subtle rhythmical motion.
Pain is a highly complex phenomenon which is helpful in some instances (like telling you to move your finger quickly away from a very hot surface or letting you know that you have sustained an injury and need to keep off the injured site) but very unhelpful and debilitating in others (when it persists for a long time, and becomes suffering).
This is the fundamental mainstream of osteopathic approaches and works on the principle that 'structure governs function' so by working on improving tissue compliance and blood-flow, we help the body to heal and maintain optimum function.

Using hands-on techniques and palpatory (touch) awareness, Osteopaths carry out a number of standard mechanical treatments including soft-tissue release (massage-type techniques such as kneading and stretching), articulation of joints, traction/ release, and springing/ thrusting joints to release them (in some cases producing a 'pop' or 'click' from the joint).
In a 2019 edition of the American Journal of Public Health, the researchers showed that sitting for 8+ hours per day increased the risk of premature death and certain chronic diseases by 10-20% (this compares with an increase from smoking of 180% so sitting is NOT the new smoking). Osteopaths have a saying: "Motion is Lotion".
David has experience as an amateur singer and performed with the Philharmonia Chorus for many years. He also plays a wind instrument and keyboard so has a first-hand understanding of musical performance.

Many of his patients are musicians, actors, dancers and circus performers who are looking for help with a range of problems and see Osteopathy as an important ingredient in their care, together with other practitioners such as Physiotherapists, Speech and Voice Therapists, Performance Psychologists and Alexander Teachers.
