Our counselling service seeks to support you when you need space to talk through your experiences or concerns, by providing empathic, non-judgemental time with one of our Counsellors. We provide free counselling for those unable to contribute financially, and ask for a donation from all clients, where they are able.
All our Counsellors are registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and are either fully qualified or in the latter stages of their training. People access our counselling service for a wide range of reasons, including anxiety, bereavement, depression, self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and experiences of abuse.

Services
NLCS began when our founder, retired Reverend Arthur Longworth, set about to create a counselling centre for local people. He recognised the need in all of us to have a space in which we can feel heard and listened to, and his aim was to achieve this by providing a warm, welcoming service delivered by trained volunteers.
My experience with the service has been entirely positive. It has helped me to realise and express some of the issues exacerbating my mental health problems, and has helped me better my life. I have found the flexibility of your service to go on for as long or short a time, very helpful to really get to the heart of issues.
In a typical week, the charity helps more than 30 individuals, on both a long- and short-term basis. Many of these people would not receive the help they need if NLCS did not exist. We do not charge clients a fixed fee for our services, and so we are completely dependent on voluntary donations and grants.
Our WHAT WE DO page provides more information on the service our counsellors provide, including our person-centred based approach, duration, limits to provision, and our hope to support our local community. We currently have a waiting list, and appointments are offered on a first-come basis, rather than on the reason for attending.
In-training counsellors should be attending training that provides a professional qualification (Diploma-level or above) on completion and should be approved as ready for practice by their course tutors. You will need to have successfully completed your programme's required assignments prior to interview and be able to confirm this.
