By law, the General Chiropractic Council has a statutory duty to develop and regulate the profession of chiropractic. Promote and maintain proper professional standards and conduct for members of the chiropractic profession. Promote standards: We will set, assure compliance and promote educational, professional and registration standards alongside lifelong learning.
The General Chiropractic Council participates in a wide range of international activities that contribute to our work and supports the development of chiropractic regulation more widely. We work with a number of institutions and organisations outside the UK to promote high standards of chiropractic worldwide.
The General Chiropractic Council consists of a Council, a number of committees and a small team of staff led by Nick Jones, Chief Executive and Registrar. The Council is responsible for ensuring that the General Chiropractic Council fulfils its statutory objectives. It sets the strategic direction for the organisation and oversees the implementation of that strategy.
All Council members adhere to our Code of Conduct, and complete a declaration of interests. Mary Chapman is a Chartered Director who, since 2008, has served as a non-executive board member for public organistions including the Royal Mint Ltd, the National Lottery Commission, the Gambling Commission, Near Neighbours and Brunel University London.
The role of the Education Committee is to guarantee high standards of chiropractic education and training. The committee ensures that these standards are maintained and regularly reviewed, playing a key role in ensuring the statutory duties of the GCC are complied with.
The Education Committee is also tasked to visit educational establishments who wish to deliver chiropractic degree education and review and submit their findings to the GCC for onward consideration by the Privy Council.
