Laurence has over 30 years experience as a self-employed plumbing and heating engineer, completing projects on churches, listed buildings, manor houses, barn conversions, swimming pools, village halls & new builds alongside Housing Associations and Councils.
Larry has been heavily involved in design and installations of general plumbing systems, Bathrooms, heating systems (oil, natural gas, LPG and solid fuel) together with lead works and underfloor heating.His passion for renewable energy and a fantastic all round service was the driving force behind the creation of Otter South West Ltd.

Air source heat pumps absorb heat from the outside air. This heat can then be used to heat radiators, underfloor heating systems and hot water in your home. An air source heat pump extracts heat from the outside air, very much in the same way that a fridge extracts heat from its inside. Even though you wouldn't think it, the Heat Pump can get heat from the air even when the temperature is as low as -15° C.
Ground source heat pumps use pipes buried in the garden to harness natural heat from the ground. It does this by pumping water through the pipes, this heat can then be used to heat radiators, underfloor or hot water in your home. The pump needs electricity to run, but it uses less than the heat it will produce.

Throughout the installation we where informed of the process at each stage. This heating / cooling system will serve us all year round and blends in with the property's character.

Used the company for 5 years. Was all ok until the last issue. Charged for a problem that wasn't fixed. Poor communication, constantly chasing. Engineer didn't turn up after already expressing frustrations, no contact or apology. Quoting for another job even after admitting they missed the issue. They still wanted to charge full amount and not offer any sort of discount. Won't be using their services again.

I am really very pleased with the new air source heat pump which has recently been installed at my home and I have no hesitation in recommending Otter South West.
From start to finish their involvement has been a really pleasant experience. All of the staff are really knowledgable, very polite, friendly and helpful.

Otter southwest were by far the best priced quote I found for the installation of my ASHP. Unlike many companies you come across offering the same technology, they seemed like the only company that were genuinely from a plumbing background rather than a sales company set up to cash in on government grants and inflated prices. They were not salesmen but tradespeople. Their professionalism and experience showed during my installation. It was done in a matter of days with excellent workmanship. I even had neighbours commenting on how quick and focused the team were. They were friendly and helpful

Never in my 20 years in the trade have I had a poor experience with a trades business! Unfortunately Otter are rude and arrogant and the owners clearly don’t give a monkeys about customer service.
I would look elsewhere if you want a reliable firm with a good industry reputation. Obviously they can afford to lose good business in the current environment.
Also amusing that I can see from their website that one of the positive “reviews” below is from a member of staff....
