The process of collection and distribution of assets belonging to a person following their death is often referred to as the administration of an Estate. Our Colin Byford and Maggie Kerrigan deal with work in connection with the administration of Estates. Both are senior solicitors, Mr Byford having qualified in 1979 and Maggie Kerrigan in 2001.
It is reasonable to assume that cost, amongst others, is a significant factor when deciding on which Solicitor is right for you. But cost is not everything. Over the past few years a greater emphasis has been placed on cost rather than the quality of work expected of a Solicitor. It was recently published in the Law Gazette that "consumer champions have criticised regulators for placing too much emphasis on price and not enough on quality".
Work on Employment Tribunal claims is carried out by Ruth Brown, a senior solicitor admitted in 1994, with occasional assistance from Mr Colin Byford. Work is charged on an hourly rate basis at 217 per hour plus VAT, or 260.40 per hour including VAT. Each case is different so it is not possible to give a fixed total cost, but a typical claim may involve the following and the costs for each stage are set out below.
