The firm was founded in the nineteenth century shortly after a Royal Charter was granted to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in 1880. Frederick William Smith, who practised at 76 Cheapside, was admitted as a Fellow of the Institute in 1881 and in 1896 was joined by Frederick John Riches in a practice called Fred.
Registered to carry on audit work in the UK and regulated for a range of investment business activities by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. This firm is not authorised under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 but we are able in certain circumstances to offer a limited range of investment services to clients because we are members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
