Discover all there is to know about the largest independent flooring specialist in Essex, with over half a century of trading history, supplying and fitting premium flooring, furniture and lighting for homes across the county. Clarkes was formed in 1968 by Nobby Clarke and his son, Tim. The business' original location was in North Street, Romford.

In 1972, the company relocated to our current premises on Roneo Corner, allowing us to offer a greater range of products and services. Since then, we've been on a quest for perfection, specifying, supplying and installing only the best flooring solutions for our customers. One of the main reasons Clarkes has grown from strength to strength through the decades is our inability to rest on our laurels.

Alternatively, please feel free to call or email the team and we'll do our best to respond to your enquiry as soon as possible.
As Essex's largest independent flooring supplier, at Clarkes we stock thousands of carpet types and varieties to suit all household needs at both ends of the budget spectrum. We specify a huge choice of styles, fibres and compositions - it's almost impossible not to find the carpet you require at our Romford showroom.
In a loop pile carpet the yarn forms loops on the surface of the carpet, either in uniform height, creating a level loop pile, or with differing heights creating a textured loop pile. Variations include a rustic tweed style loop known as a Berber which contains highlight flecks. Wool loops are a popular alternative to coir and sisal matting because they have the added comfort, warmth and durability of natural wool.

A local independent store that's much bigger than you think. Customer parking outside, split over 2 levels with a massive range of carpets and flooring. Great selection or rugs and interior furniture. Family run business

I first telephoned the store, having been shielding for some 16 months and a very pleasant lady suggested I visited the showroom early - which I did.
I was assisted in store by two extremely helpful guys. I purchased my requirements and told delivery would be in the afternoon. By 12:10 it had arrived by an equally charming young guy If there was a word to excel EXCELLENT for the whole experience I would use it! Will definitely be using this Company again without a doubt that's for sure

Ordered some flooring via Clarkes, dealt with Ben who was lovely. I spoke to a lady who confirmed my shipment had arrived in store and booked me a delivery slot. The flooring came as expected. The whole process was flawless, I'm very chuffed. Would highly recommend Clarkes. Great customer service, thank you everyone 🙂

Very friendly and helpful. I don't like their fitting arrangements as you can't tie them down. I eventually got an an appointment and first call of the day. Was told it was still between 9 and 11, eventually turned up at 10:15am. Fitter should call the customer to let them know roughly when to expect them as They could call towards the end of each job to advise.
