The Hillside
The Hillside is a charming, rustic pub situated in the historic Georgian village of Hillsborough, County Down, only 15 minutes drive from Belfast city centre. The Hillside first opened its doors to patrons in 1752 and has been enjoying a busy trade ever since thanks to our excellent food and drinks selection and our friendly, welcoming service.

We are renowned for our roaring open fires in the winter and our pretty cobble stoned beer garden in the summer. The Hillside is one of Hillsborough's oldest pubs and offers an abundance of charm and comfort. We have a wide selection of ales, beers, stouts and spirits featuring local craft drinks and the very finest whiskeys.

Very poor service with extra long wait for food. Booked for 1pm eating at 3pm. Plenty of excuses but not good enough.

The Sunday roasts here are superb with the roast pork being my favourite. A friendly owner who enjoys his job and has time for every customer, a great selection of beer and whiskey, and either a beer garden for the good days, or a nice cosey fire for the colder ones, a fantastic bar all round.

We arrived at the hillside at 4.30pn to eat and enjoy a meal out with my friends. 3 of us. We sat at a table by the fire and ordered a bottle of wine and when the 2 people who where at the large table by the window left we moved over to the bigger table to enjoy space for our food, which we had not yet ordered.
The lovely little waitress was sent to tell us we had to move from this table as it was booked for 7.30pm.
It was only 5.15 pm and we assured them we would be gone by 6.45pm. No we still could not sit there we had to move. We then proceeded to the restaurant where we were further humiliated

The food we ordered was well presented and tasty. But it took so long for us to get served. We were given the menu but the waitress seem to forget about us. Have to go and find someone to take the order.

Ate here on a trip to Hillsborough at the weekend. Food was good when it finally arrived - 45 minutes after we ordered. In fairness one of our main courses was removed from our bill due to the wait but it was still an extremely long time to wait. Also none of the staff were wearing masks or face coverings, I found this very off-putting in the current climate. Shame because the food was nice and the atmosphere is lovely but those two things would prevent me from returning unfortunately.

We were in for a meal and a few drinks on Sunday evening. It's so lovely to be able to sit in a pub setting like this and enjoy a fairly quiet evening without blasting music and the hussle and bussle of a mad restaurant. This place is just as nice as other pub restaurants in the area and no more or less expensive. The atmosphere inside is cosy and warm as the outside of the building would suggest it's going to be. The 4 of us had a nice meal and in the most part were waited upon without fuss or hassle. One member of waiting staff was rather blunt and to the point, not so much as to be rude but

Service poor and food a bit hit and miss. It wasn't busy and we were told that one of the starters was no longer available so my husband ordered the pork belly. Our starters arrived and after a short wait so did our cutlery. Food was just warm! The mains were OK but nothing exceptional! We ordered pudding and told they had no cream so couldn't make… the pavlova so we ordered sticky toffee pudding. The sauce was grainy and sludgy and barely warm and again we had to wait for spoons. My brother has eaten here before and said he was so disappointed as he wanted us to experience a nice meal on

Amazing food served, with brilliant service from staff members who were friendly, helpful and chatty! Bar staff were also amazing, with drinks being ordered and sent to our table very quick! Their cocktails are also worth trying with a good selection available! Will definately be going back here for food and drinks again soon!

A lovely traditional pub serving good food but full of barking dogs making it a surreal experience.
Don’t know who was worst the dogs or the dog owners who didn’t seem to care as their dogs barked most of the time we were eating.
There were at least three or four of them at the front area of the pub.
Such a pity as the pub is lovely. I have never experienced this in an Irish pub before.
I think the owners need a rethink on policy as they must be losing business.
