Building on our history in Clitheroe, Sowerbutts have been selling furniture in three different centuries. The history of Sowerbutts house furnishers starts with three Sowerbutts brothers, James, William Henry and John who in the middle 1800's commenced a partnership as ironmongers, tinplate workers, carpenters and cabinet makers, in various addresses in Clitheroe town centre.
By 1870 James had bought the title deeds to 3, Moor Lane and was carrying on a business of Cabinet Making and Funeral Director. The brothers partnership was dissolved in 1883, although all three continued to trade independently in Clitheroe thereafter. History tells us that James' marriage produced 3 children, John and Susannah and Clara.

HM Sowerbutts & Co is still owned and run by the fifth generation of the Sowerbutts family. Founded in 1870 in the historic market town of Clitheroe in Lancashire's beautiful Ribble Valley.

On the first floor above our small window area at Victoria Buildings on King Street is our huge display of dining and bedroom cabinets covering all price ranges, with contemporary and traditional styles, in oak, ash, wenge, teak, mahogany, pine, painted, solid timber, veneers, foils, and heat resistant melamine.
Beds, frames, mattresses & headboards are displayed at Sowerbutts Home Furnishers in Clitheroe. Divans, bed frames and ottomans including headboards are available for immediate delivery. Whether you require a mattress only, a budget frame or a luxury drawer divan bed Sowerbutts have every type and size of bed available with most offered for immediate delivery from our own warehouse.
Sowerbutts stock a plethora of occasional furniture including hall, console, coffee, lamp, wine and nests of tables along with corner cupboards, chests, bookcases, CD/DVD towers, magazine racks, and mirrors. Featuring modern, contemporary and traditional ranges in a variety of wood and foil finishes, a whole range of shades are offered with colours including cherry, beech, oak, mahogany, ash, teak, pine.
Upholstery, Sofas, sofa beds, recliners on show in contemporary, traditional and retro styles. In our King Street showrooms in Clitheroe, Sowerbutts home furnishers stock a large selection of upholstery including three and two seater sofas, recliners, sofa beds, wing, swivel chairs and mobility rise and recliners in contemporary, traditional and retro styles, on castors, glides, natural, dark or mahogany feet.

We’ve bought a few pieces of furniture from Sowerbutts and have always found the staff to be polite, helpful and knowledgeable with lots of choice of good quality furniture and beds. We are delighted with our latest purchase which was delivered with care. Nothing is too much trouble for this local family business which we are more than happy to support.

We chose a local family firm instead of a multi national and were not disappointed. Nothing was too much trouble as Ian Sowerbutts showed us various beds before we purchased. I was so impressed we finished up buying a chair as well! The delivery team arrived with full PPE removing the old bed and installing new. They were a credit to the Company and confirmed our choice of buying locally.

Sowerbutts ordered me a glass dining table into their store as there was none in stock. I was kept fully updated when the table would be in. I bought the table & arranged delivery. The table was delivered, assembled & they even took my old table to the charity shop! Fantastic, curteous & professional service.
