Franklins Solicitors
We provide a range of legal services to individuals and to businesses. We have experienced lawyers specialising in commercial property, residential property, wills, probate and powers of attorney. We aim to offer a personal and high quality service whilst ensuring that costs are proportionate and affordable. We offer modestly priced fixed fee interviews if you would like to talk things through with a lawyer before choosing whether or not to instruct us.
Services
The Firm was founded in 1978 by the late Jim Franklin and the present partners are Julia Kent and Helen Foreman. Our property team handles all types of sales, purchases, mortgage and leasehold work for individuals and businesses. Our private client work covers wills, probate, powers of attorney, deputyships, tax planning and the administration of estates.
Our commercial lawyer has an outstanding regional reputation for commercial property work. John Cunliffe has a depth of expertise rarely found in high street firms, including sales and purchases of industrial and development sites, as well as a wealth of knowledge about leases of shops, offices, industrial units and commercial premises generally.
The residential property team at Franklins is independent and offers a local, personal and professional service. Instead, every case is handled by a qualified member of staff. Our clients value our friendly and personal service, our considerable professional expertise and local knowledge.

Where we provide a quote for your work, that quote will have no hidden extras for, for example, dealing with a mortgage or registering the title at the land registry.Julia Kent trained with Franklins and became a partner in the firm in 1983. She has great experience in the conveyancing of residential property and her commonsense approach is appreciated by clients.
Your priorities for the people and causes dearest to you are something we endeavour to understand. You may have in mind asset protection, the inheritance tax regulations and the use of trusts to protect vulnerable family members. We can advise on ways in which those wishes can be formulated by will and the tax and other implications of doing so.
A power of attorney is a legal document which gives someone else the authority to take decisions and to sign legal documents on your behalf. This can be a general power of attorney, perhaps given by a gap year child to a parent to enable the parent to look after the child's finances while they are travelling, or perhaps if someone needs to be out of the country while a house sale is in progress, for example.

I have worked with Julia for the process of buying two houses now and have always found her and her team nothing less than exemplary. I've recommended her and her team to several friends and family members over the years, several of which have used more than once and also passed on recommendations to their friends! Which is a testament in itself. Would highly recommend.
Also twice Julia has picked up on issues with properties that previous, fairly recent solicitors have missed, saving us problems down the line as buyers.
I was very surprised to see the reviews below, as I've certainly never had

I have used these solicitors as a home buyer twice now, and I couldn't be more pleased with the service! It feels like the firm is made up of experienced individuals, who are very knowledgeable and have always acted in my interests. The process was smooth and quick on both occasions.
As a relatively inexperienced buyer it's so reassuring to have experts like these at the end of a phone, especially given some of the charlatans out there. Ideally I wouldn't use anyone else in future.
Julia Kent was my main representative. If she's available then get her, although, having had brief conversations

Critical: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness
These are our buyers’ solicitor and I’d be appalled if they were mine. Julia Kent is utterly unresponsive to the most fundamental of queries and I wouldn’t be surprised if this firm has been the subject of regulatory investigations. Lazy, feckless and a discredit to the legal profession.

Awful. Was quick to get me on their books and have me sign T&C's etc. but when it came to customer care, just awful. No reply to emails, no return of phone calls. After 8 weeks of only ever speaking to a secretary I instructed another firm who only took 4 weeks from start to finish to complete my transaction.
