Honesty remains at the core of our existence as the purveyors of classic menswear and style. Michael Donnelly founded North Clothing in Belfast in 1998. After a successful career in menswear dealing with many leading designers in the mens fashion industry Michael decided to start his own more quality focused project, as he felt most of the major labels were now focused on profits and had somehow lost sight of what was important in menswear.
Now over 20 years later, Michael is still promoting that quality garment focusing mostly on British and Irish made garments from hand made footwear to finely woven Irish tweeds. Many of North Clothing's suppliers work closely with Michael and the team, creating unique collections exclusive to North, classic pieces that stand the test of time.

Joseph Cheaney founded the company and moved to the present site in 1896. In 1903 Joseph's sons Arthur and Harold joined the company. In 1930 "Dick" Cheaney, grandson of the founder, joined the company and in 1966 Cheaney won the Queen's Award to industry and was sold to Church and Company. In 2009 Jonathan and William Church bought the company.
