Services
The H&N, in H&N Counselling & Psychotherapy refers to Helen Graham and Nicky Garrett. We are approachable and sensitive counsellors offering both brief and longer term counselling. Having worked with a wide range of client issues we have found certain counselling styles suit some people more than others, with this knowledge we draw from a range of approaches to provide the right support for you.
Counselling will provide you an opportunity to explore your feelings, make sense of what is happening or happened and gain greater self awareness. It can also help you to look at your own personal resources and capabilities that can sometimes get lost in times of confusion or anxiety.
Trust is essential what you tell us is held as confidential; in other words what you tell us will not be discussed or passed on to anyone else unless you give permission.

A counselling session is time set aside by you and your counsellor which provides a safe and private space where you will not be disturbed and cannot be overheard or interrupted. During the counselling session you and the counsellor will consider the issues that brought you to counselling and which may include talking about life events (past and present), feelings, emotions, relationships, ways of thinking and patterns of behaviour.
The first introductory session where you decide if this is right for you will last 50 minutes. Counselling is confidential and is essential in a therapeutic relationship as part of building trust between you and your counsellor, although there are exceptions to this which will be explained in detail at our first meeting.
Addiction is when someone continues to do something, like drinking or using drugs despite the harm to their physical health, mental health, relationships etc. A person with an addiction does not have control over what they are doing, taking or using.
Addictions do not only include physical things we consume, such as drugs or alcohol, but may include virtually anything from gambling to what seems harmless such as chocolate - in other words, addiction may refer to a substance dependence e.g.Counselling can be an effective and successful way of treating addictions by helping you to, firstly, recognise whether you have an addiction and secondly, to help you understand your addiction.
