Located at the Richmond Park Clinic, East Sheen and serving south-west London, the Lynne Phillips Osteopathic Practice, offers osteopathic treatments to all ages from babies to the elderly. Lynne trained at the British School of Osteopathy (now The University College of Osteopathy) where she was a clinic tutor, and has been in practice since 2001.

The central idea in osteopathy is that the body will function properly and self-adjust to maintain good health as long as all the moving parts of the structure are free to move mechanically as they should. When you come for your first appointment, a double length session is booked so that the osteopath can gather all the information necessary to understand your problem and ensure that it is safe to treat you.

The term 'osteopathy' was coined by an American physician Dr Andrew Taylor Still in 1874. Still had observed the crude medical practices of his time and concluded that they were frequently more dangerous than disease. Possibly driven by the loss of three of his children to meningitis and longstanding study of engineering and anatomy he developed a musculo-skeletal approach to healing.
When you come for your first appointment, a double length session is booked so that the osteopath can gather all the information necessary to understand your problem and ensure that it is safe to treat you. Typically this will take about 1 hour. First a detailed case history is taken. This starts with the story of your current problem: your symptoms, when and how it happened and progression since onset.
The central idea in osteopathy is that the body will function properly and self-adjust to maintain good health as long as all the moving parts of the structure are free to move mechanically as they should. As we go through life, we pick up knocks and strains and bad postural habits which prevent us from functioning well mechanically and our bodies are eventually unable to compensate for this and we suffer health problems.
The osteo- (from Greek-bone) part of the title suggests that we deal with the skeleton and osteopaths are most frequently associated with spinal problems; particularly low back pain. In fact, people can come to us for help with any musculo-skeletal problem and may find that they gain relief from a wide variety of health issues which benefit from improved physical function.
Osteopathy is a respected and recognised profession. Since 1993, all osteopaths are registered with the General Osteopathic Council whose duty is to ensure standards that protect the public. Osteopaths are required to renew their registration annually, proving that they have current insurance, no criminal convictions, and are continuing to develop their professional skills through ongoing study.
