Probably the saddest burger I've had in the last decade. Only burger and bread, and just a little bit of lettuce. Way more bread than burger, so be ready to eat bread on its own. I asked to the waiter if that was it, and they told me I should have asked for extras. However said extras weren't offered at the time of purchase.
I don't know, maybe it's my ignorance. Maybe "Derby burger" commonly means "Sad burger" and I didn't know.
The service was nice, hence the second star.

I didn't stay in the hotel, just went to pub for dinner. Pub looks nice and welcoming from the outside. Unfortunately food was awful. I've ordered a burger and I was served with a bread roll and package ready meat. No sauces, no vegetables. Just dry overcooked meat with bread. It was served with cold fries and coleslaw. I'm not a Karen, I don't normally write bad comments but I also haven't had so bad food for a long time. Waitresses didn't even asked how the meal was, I think because she didn't want to hear people's complaints.

Maybe they were having an off day. Poor beer selection unless you're a lager fan. Had pint of Yardbird and left half. Witnessed one bloke sending his food back and generally didn't enjoy the experience. Like I say benefit of the doubt and let's put it down to experience. Shame really, it used to be so good.

My mum and husband stayed for her husbands birthday as a surprise this weekend. The room was disgusting, the sheets were marked and had black hair on, stains on the towels, lampshades broken and dirty, nets hanging hanging off, tv didn’t work and was reported and staff never came to fix when they said they would. The hallway the light didn’t work so was dark and it smelt of cigarette smoke. Staff rude . Went for breakfast all tables sticky and food certainly isn’t as advertised neither are the rooms, man on table next to us complained to staff his sausages were still frozen. Had to pay in

Daniel and Beatrice could not have been any more welcoming! We booked because Daniel was so friendly and let us view a room before booking. It is 3*, but clean room, en-suite, bed linen and towels. Breakfast was superb and on site parking a real bonus! Great for an overnight stay in the centre of Cambridge and we will definitely return. Many thanks T

Stayed for two nights over a weekend. The Earl of Derby is in a good location if you don't mind a short walk into the City Centre, and could not be better if you are planning a visit to the botanical garden as part of your stay. The staff were very friendly, and the breakfast was plenty big enough to set you up for the day. The room was one of the ones above the pub, size was good, but at a point where it would benefit from refurbishing, especially the bathroom. The general standard of cleaning could have been better. Good value for accommodation in Cambridge.

My room looks like it was decorated by a colour blind person in the 70's but its clean and that's the important thing. The food is pretty good too. I admit that Alex Polizzi would have a field day here :-) I have yellow walls with a terracotta carpet and hot pink bed sheets. Its a good location, just 5 mins walk from the train station and my room is really quiet despite being above a pub. Its £75 to stay here and whilst its not the Ritz its much better than the last place I stayed in Cambridge. At least I feel I can use the shower here.
The food is reasonably priced as is the beer

Making the best of an unpromising location hard by a very busy road out of town, the Earl is a decent, spacious pub with B&B rooms and a large beer garden, handy for the station. Functional rather than characterful, it's popular for football-watching (though get there early as several tables have an obscured view of the screens). Also does all-day breakfast on a Sunday.
