NEIMME Lectures will still take place whilst we are out of the building and full details can be found here. The North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers is often abbreviated to "the Mining Institute". The Mining Institute owns one of the finest buildings in Newcastle, Neville Hall, a Victorian building built at the time when high-Gothic architecture was coming into fashion.
During this time most of the Library's physical collection was unavailable however prebooked visits are now possible. A new portal to the Library's digital collection will be launched in autumn 2021. The NEIMME Library has one of the largest, most comprehensive collections on mining engineering in the world.
The Institute organises a range of events throughout the year including fieldtrips and social events. If you would like to suggest a topic for an Institute meeting, we would be very happy to hear from you. Please contact the Institute Secretary at office@mininginstitute.org.uk. We are also looking to support conferences and are open to sponsoring events and conference attendance especially for students studying in the North.
The Institute is pleased to announce this joint conference with the Mining Technology Division of IOM3, the Midlands Institute of Mining Engineers and the Mining Institute of Scotland, the purpose of which is to review events that have changed thinking, improved methods and equipment in the 20-year passage of time since our Institute last reviewed these topics.
From 1852 onwards, the Institute published its Transactions which gave the text of lectures and discussions held at the Institute. The Institute is now continuing this work in online form. Check back regularly for the latest papers added to our Transactions as well as Featured Articles written by experts on projects in the British Isles and beyond.
