Services
At Barnes Auto Engineering we cater for all aspects of modern cylinder head repair, whether head gasket or cam belt failure. Cylinder head resurfacing, pressure testing, valve seats recut, valve guides supplied and fitted. Broken glow plug removal, broken bolt removal. All sizes of solid thread repair insets supplied and fitted including spark plug sizes.
We undertake in resurfacing (skimming) both aluminium and cast iron cylinder heads, from cars, vans, tractors, plant machinery, boats and many more, to a high standard, removing the equivalent to less than a hair strand thickness to return the flat surface needed. It is advisable to have your head skimmed after a head gasket failure.
A noticeable loss in engine power may be the first symptom you may notice, if there is a crack in your cylinder head. A loss of compression, when air and fuel are escaping from the cylinder head, is a good indication there is something wrong. You will notice that you can't travel as fast, the engine runs slower and it may sound 'rough' or it may stop.
If your engine has been overheating it can distort the valve seats from constant expansion and contraction, hot and cold. The valve seat can then distort, therefore the valve can not seal correctly. This leads to loss of performance due to the compression in the cylinder leaking past the badly seated valve.
