At Uncommon Projects, we have been designing, manufacturing and installing bespoke kitchens and furniture for a decade. Our founders, the architect Alan Drumm and the product designer James Hoy, set up our studio in London, in 2011, armed with a wealth of experience in interior architecture, design and manufacture, a mutual affection for the early modernist aesthetic, and a shared appreciation of the material possibilities of plywood.
Our first products were in-frame doors for kitchen cabinets - challenging because dimensions and details have to be perfect every time. That's how we honed the level of precision in our designs that we've become renowned for.

Services
Uncommon Projects can be found throughout London and all over the UK. From single kitchen installations to top-to-bottom house redevelopments, our designs always take the overall architecture and aesthetic of the property as their starting point, so whatever the layout and finish chosen, they always make the most of the space and feel like they belong.
Yes, we're expert joiners and cabinet makers, too. But above all else, we're problem solvers. Thanks to Alan and James' backgrounds in architecture and product design, we've enshrined design thinking at the heart of our work.
That means avoiding the easy route (we don't just slap cabinets on the biggest wall available), and taking the time to reconcile the reality of the space to the lifestyle and unmet needs of our customer, as well as being sensitive to existing architectural details.Every Uncommon Projects kitchen is unique, because every customer has different problems to solve.

First, it's important to clarify something: you will find a cheaper kitchen elsewhere. What you are much less likely to find is one that's better-made, longer-lasting, more thoughtfully designed or built from higher-quality materials. Every item of Uncommon Projects furniture is individually designed from scratch by experienced and qualified designers (not salespeople with software).
Uncommon Projects really seemed to care about our kitchen project - in a side return to a Victorian terrace. They challenged us to think differently and consistently gave us excellent advice about everything from the units, worktops, and appliances to the floor tiles and the lighting. Communication with Alan and Liz was always friendly, easy and quick.

We originally came across Uncommon Projects on Houzz and immediately loved the look and style of their kitchens, but it was only once we'd seen them at their workshop did we appreciate the quality as well. We were really impressed with every stage of the process, from Alan's creative design ideas (managing to design out any awkward corner cupboards) to Liz's attention to detail and regular correspondence throughout the planning stages. The quality of the joinery is incredibly high and the ideas they came up with have really maximized the space we had, and would not have been possible with standard

I chose Uncommon Projects because I loved their design. I wanted to create a kitchen and family room out of what was a large Georgian sitting room. I wanted something that felt more like beautiful pieces of furniture than a kitchen and stayed faithful to some of the original features. The finished project and the whole experience with Uncommon projects surpassed my expectations. The design and quality of the work is amazing and the expertise, skill and care that Alan, Liz and the whole team took was really impressive. They were a real joy to work with and the customer service was second to none

Great service from a great company. Chose Uncommon Projects based on their reputation of delivering high quality well-designed bespoke cabinetry, and I wasn't disappointed. The process was simple from Zoom consultation to CAD approval to on-site survey. Installation went smoothly as well, and the measurements were spot on - everything looks great. Would highly recommend.

From the initial consultation and design right through to the construction stage the uncommon projects team were an absolute joy to work with. Their skill and inspiration has helped us transform an unused & unloved corner into the heart of our home study/working space. The attention to detail means that it is both beautiful and incredibly practical too. I couldn’t recommend them highly enough. Alison

Our new kitchen is a thing of beauty and function, and the product of a great collaboration. Alan, Liz, Tom and colleagues were always responsive to our questions and suggestions. How Alan helped us redefine our initial ideas into the final shape was a great example of user co-production. For example, as newly converted Ottolenghi aficionados our spice cupboard was overflowing and chaotic. With Alan we went through several design iterations of a spice cupboard where all spices would be visible and ordered effortlessly. The final design was the best and the simplest.

We love our kitchen and joinery! Throughout the design and installation process the team were highly responsive and their attention to detail was second to none. The result is a kitchen space that feels more like a beautifully furnished and warm room, with touches like the discreet downdraught extractor adding to this feeling. Our joinery extends into our dining space and living space with a pocket door bar cupboard, floor to ceiling bookcases that create a 'library' space and media unit, creating consistency throughout the downstairs. The team carefully considered how the joinery fits into the
