Bookings for food is advisable as we do have less tables than normal due to social distancing. A warm welcome awaits you at our traditional country pub and restaurant situated in 6 acres of wonderful rural countryside within the small village of Whiston, 2 miles from Penkridge in Staffordshire. The Swan has been a traditional country freehouse since 1593 and has something to offer everyone.
The pub is a popular haunt for walkers, cyclists, real ale enthusiasts and families looking for a relaxing drink and locally sourced home cooked food. A wide and large selection of Real Ale, Ciders & Perrys are sourced from all over the UK. Enjoy a drink or bar snack in our traditional bar with beams, tiled floor and open fireplace that is always roraring on those cold winter days and evenings.

Services
That pub was The Swan at Whiston situated in 6 acres of grounds at the edge of the village. That man was James Davies who became known to all as Jim, a well known and respected landlord. A lot of hard work went into building up the business as it is today with Jim in the early days, going off to do his daytime job with Severn Trent then returning home to run the pub in the evening, often finishing in the early hours of the morning.
The Swan has a traditional bar popular with the local farmers, cyclists, walkers and real ale enthusiasts. Tiled floors, exposed beams and an open fireplace help create a atmosphere whilst the selection of real ales, ciders and perrys is one of the largest in the area. The bar also has a sporting tradition with a pool table, darts board, dominoes, cards and TV for live sporting occasions.
Due to demand we extended the dining facilities a few years ago with an extension to provide a separate restaurant area adjacent to the lounge. The restaurant can cater for 40 covers with a variety of flexible seating arrangements. The decorations and theme fit in perfectly with the rest of the pub providing a traditional english country restaurant.
We have a varied selection of white, red and rose wines as well as sparkling wine and champagne, mostly available by the glass, as indicated below. Served by 175ml / 250ml / Bottle - where indicated. Citrus notes on the nose, with fresh lime and lemon on the palate, accompanied by a riper hint of pineapple, and mouthwatering acidity.
Enjoy a relaxing drink and bite to eat in our patio area or beer garden surrounded by beautiful flowers and bushes. The beer garden is accessible next to the bar entrance and provides the perfect setting for an afternoon or early evening drink when the sunshine is out. We also have an aviary in the garden with a selection of birds including: Budgerigars, Cockatiels, Parakeets and Bantams, as well as a chicken pen.

Pleasant country pub. Visited for lunch. Not packed but enough customers to make a friendly atmosphere. Good choice of food. Lunchtime menu, main menu and specials board. All food freshly cooked, and a good selection of home cooked delights. A good selection of beers, ciders and soft drinks. Well worth a visit and good value for money.

Very nice country pub famed for their steak nights . Booked a table for four on a Tuesday, Steak/grill nights or so the Web site says. Asked upon arrival what was on steak night menu and told steak nights canceled at moment, might mention on Web site! Steaks however were available and one of our group had rump steak. It was not up to the Swans usual excellent standard, it was quite tough. I do need to add that when mentioned to waiting staff they were very apologetic and gave us a free bottle of wine. All our other meals were excellent. Only other issue was that pub was very busy and we waited

Best burger I've ever had, even beats the old bear grill burger in stafford.
Great speedy service for our party of 9, all the food came out together.
The portions were massive. Everyone loved their meal. We can't comment on dessert as none of us could fit one in 😊
We will be going again for sure. Thank you.
