When Thorstein Veblen came up with the concepts of conspicuous consumption and invidious comparison he might have had in mind this little shop, tucked away on Prince Albert Street.
The hand -woven 18 carat gold and silver jewellery may be delicate but the prices are for people made of robust stuff. The cheapest set of ear-rings will set you back around £45 but if you have patience a necklace is currently on the way back from Monaco which carries a price tag of £4,500.
Ray Marshall, who manages the shop in tandem with the eponymous Rina, told me the global financial meltdown has been good

Outside of the Lanes, there are a couple of jewelry shops just perching on the edge of the area. Rina Tairo is one of these, and is unique in that it only sells the pieces of one artist. Tairo's pieces are certainly peculiar, often using fine spun metal to create delicate, intricate and fragile looking pieces of jewelry. It is absolutely beautiful, and well worth looking at, even if they are exceptionally expensive to purchase.
