Julie Watts Family Law
Julie Watts Family Law can help you with all your family law problems including divorce, separation, financial issues and child arrangements - whether in or out of court. As a practising solicitor for over 20 years, I have extensive experience in resolving all family matters. I give you all the guidance, support and practical advice you need in a friendly, flexible way, without the worry of running up huge legal bills.

As well as being a solicitor, I am a member of the Society of Professional McKenzie Friends. I am an affiliate member of Resolution and offer a fully insured service. I believe that the cost of traditional solicitors is out of the reach of most people and that's why I chose to leave private practice and achieve my aim of providing affordable advice and assistance.
Services
I qualified as a solicitor in 1994 and since 2000 I have specialised solely in family law in Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire and London. I have been a partner both at a small firm and a large regional firm. I'm proud of what I have achieved in private practice, but I always wondered if there might be another way to help people through a divorce or separation, based on emotional and financial needs.
When you feel ready to act, I will assist you to complete all the required divorce paperwork accurately to ensure it goes through smoothly and without unnecessary delay. If divorce is not the right option for you at present, I can help you to agree the terms of a separation and formalise those terms in a separation agreement.
Whether you are married or living together, separation brings about numerous financial issues that need to be settled. And it's not just about the dividing of assets. Budgeting for the future now you are on your own can be particularly daunting. My primary goal is to help you agree a fair and workable financial settlement, whatever your situation.
The hardest aspect of splitting up is deciding on arrangements for the children. Working out what's best for them, which parent they live with and how they divide their time between each of you. I can assist you with that difficult conversation and ensure you discuss it in a comfortable and positive way.
If you decide to deal with a family law court case yourself, you are a litigant person and have the right to use a McKenzie Friend. A McKenzie Friend can give you 'reasonable assistance' in preparing for and attending court and originates from a 1970 court case (McKenzie v McKenzie). Advise you on the legal process - the likely outcome of court proceedings, your options and what is fair in terms of family law.

Julie helped me through my divorce process with her wisdom, her clear thinking, and her down to earth attitude. She is very experienced and was able to guide me when I was almost unable to function with the, at times, overwhelming emotion of it. She was available when I needed her and was quick and professional in her advice.
Thanks Julie! I can't think of a better person to have helped me through it all!

Julie responded very quickly and very positively whenever I needed to call on her and this was extremely reassuring to me. She understood the matter thoroughly and offered valuable advice. I found her non judgemental and easy to talk to and she was focused on the needs of my son both in the financial and child arrangements aspects of the case.

I was really pleased I came across Julie's website when I decided to be litigant in person. I was confident I could represent myself but wanted some help with the legal aspect of things that I had little to no knowledge of, plus some moral support at times. Julie was very responsive from the offset, being easily accessible and really prompt at replying to my communications. Julie was very helpful from the first enquiry through to the case being resolved and supported me throughout. I would highly recommend you use Julie Watts Family Law if you are representing yourself, I found it straightforward
