The Yellow Door began life as a fine dining restaurant in Gilford, Co. Down in 1992. Due to demand for a more informal food offering the Yellow Door Deli opened in Portadown in 1997. The restaurant was later sold to Barry Smyth who has now just recently rejoined our team as a managing partner in the cafes at Hillsborough Castle and Gardens.
Over the years the deli and bakery business has expanded, giving rise to other delis and a busy wedding, event and corporate catering business. We have a great team, and lots of family! Simon Dougan runs the deli in Portadown, and the outside catering business. Andrew (his cousin) opened the delis in Belfast and Lisburn and runs the catering at Ulster Rugby and Fuelled by Yellow Door at Catalyst.

Services
Our outlets and the premises in which we cater are all a little bit different and unique. Our own deli restaurant in Portadown offers breakfast, lunch, and afternoon light bites or indulgent pastries as does our caf at Hillsborough Castle and Gardens. The Lisburn Rd deli in Belfast is small and bijou and perfect for grab and go and the hub of the Belfast "Food to go" service.
Your wedding day will be full of incredible memories and your wedding food should be one of them. We cater in all sorts of different wedding venues, from the beautifully historic to the unique, secluded and completely individual. We understand that this is the most important day of your life. Our professional team of event planners have vast experience and are totally committed to making your day an exceptionally memorable and enjoyable one.
From gala balls to sporting events, ministerial lunches to VIP receptions, special occasion parties, awards ceremonies, christenings or barbeques, we have the experience to cater for any and every event or function. We are the only Northern Irish members of the Sustainable Restaurant Association so when you choose Yellow Door as your catering partner you can be assured of making a sustainable choice.
We work with event planners throughout Ireland and can cater in all sorts of unique and unusual venues; from castles to marquees, national trust properties, public buildings, family homes and great big fields! Here is a list of some of the lovely venues in which we already cater but we'd happily go anywhere suitable.
We are delighted to welcome you back for sit-in and patio dining Wed to Sun 10am to 4.00pm. Last night my Plus one and I attended an amazing New Year Banquet at The Ulster Museum.
It was in recognition of the hard work by all involved in the NI Year of Food and Drink. The evening kicked off in the ground floor of the museum with a drinks and canapé reception before a speech or two.
We then made our way to the "heavens" to truly have our taste sensations challenged and satiated. The main course was the beef shin which was the NI alternative Signature dish which was recently introduced at St Georges Market. As we do not eat beef we had the same dish but with a nut cutlet and

Yellow Door cafe within the Ulster Museum serves some seriously delicious fodder. Renowned for their fabulous Yellow Door breads I couldn't resist treating myself today to an indulgently devine croque madame. It was an amazing grilled cheese and bechamel sauce delight of a toasted sandwich filled with goats cheese and spinach. Served with an uber fresh dressed salad and creamy luxury potato salad. I completely forgot my diet! There's a great range on offer here - sandwiches, baked potatoes, soups, tray bakes, hot dishes (a tagine today), crumbles, pastries - all made by Yellow Door themselves

I'm a bit of a fan of a museum cafe, as any day out is always enhanced by a little coffee and bun break. In this case we found ourselves in the area and Maggie Mays being queued out the door we decided to give the Yellow Door in the Ulster Museum a try.
Bright and airy with lovely big windows overlooking Botanic Gardens, it is easy to be distracted by the location and be gentler on the food. Perhaps the big windows mean they can see your purse coming, as for a light lunch this place is a little spendy. You order at a reasonably well laid out counter with a selection of your usual lunch type
