Blackford C of E School is a Primary school at Blackford, just 2 miles north of Carlisle, not far from the border with Scotland. We are a rural school at the heart of the Blackford community with around 50 pupils from 3-11 years old. The school is next door to our church, St John the Baptist. We value our status as a church school but welcome pupils and families of all faiths or none.
The school was built around the 1830's and has recently been extended and remodelled to provide: a new classroom and outdoor learning area for our Early Years and Key Stage 1 children; a new main entrance and offices; a large library; and a staffroom. We offer up to 30 hours Nursery provision and have flexible out-of- hours care available every school day until 5:30pm.

Services
We have a cross curricular approach to teaching that is responsive to pupils' needs and interests. English and Maths are taught in line with the National Curriculum as discrete subjects but are also embedded in other subjects across the school day. Reading - we use a colour banded scheme which includes resources from a variety of reading schemes including Oxford Reading Tree, Rigby Star and Ginn.
The foundations of our church give it a strong base upon which to build and develop. The foundations represent our ethos and values - the way the whole school community of staff, children, parents and carers, and the community behave towards each other which provides the secure structure upon which the school can grow.
Last year, Mr Moffat came to talk to us about The Future of Taru, a village in Kenya, Africa, where he was starting to build a school. Mr Moffat told us he was travelling to Africa this week so we made books about our school and the church for him to take. In art, we have been focusing on self-portraits and have looked at self-portraits by famous artists.
