Cakes Etcetera was born in the Spring of 1998 and presently has an amazing retail shop with FREE parking on Chapel Street, Long Eaton close to the town centre, where customers can browse at their leisure. Customers can expect a warm welcome and friendly advice. The shop is an Aladdin's Cave of sugarcraft delights.
Owner Sheila McLaughlin has over 25 years experience in cake decorating and was formerly a lecturer in confectionery design at Clarendon College in Nottingham. She also has 20 years in sugarcraft retailing, starting out in 1992 from home before opening her first shop in Chilwell. Services
Sheila McLaughlin is an approved PME tutor and offers the PME Professional Diploma Masters Certificate in Sugarcraft in her specially prepared classroom at Cakes Etcetera. Weekend courses and afternoon courses are also available, subject to numbers, throughout the year. These are varied in subject matter and are posted on the website with plenty of notice.
Every cake is bespoke therefore you can choose different flavours for different tiers if you wish. Some flavours may not stack well but I will let you know and this flavour can be offered as a separate cutting cake. Taster boxes are available to purchase - see details under "wedding consultations" in the Services section.

This includes a sample of four different flavours chosen from our recommended list of flavours - see below. You can arrange a date for collection from the shop or an address in Toton, or you can choose to have them delivered by post for 3.50 extra.

I got a cake for my Girlfriends birthday last month, I ordered really last minute due to be let down by someone else, but Sheila was incredibly accommodating. I ordered a dairy free, chocolate drip cake. It looked amazing which of course is always a big plus when it's a surprise for someone's birthday!
Of course taste is the real test of a cake though. I am someone who usually avoids dairy free cakes, finding them a touch bland and dry more often than not. This cake however, was incredible. It was probably too big for the amount of people tucking in to it, but the whole thing was gone within three

Having forgotten to ask for a Gluten Free and a Vegan cake, the following day I re-visited the shop to make amends. No problem and the cake had reference to the writing of a book on the history of Elvaston Castle, Brilliant. The cake turned out to be very tasty and exceedingly well presented. Top Marks. and thank you once again for your efforts.

We just had our wedding, and Cakes Etc supplied our cake. The cake tasting went very well, and we selected our cake flavours, which were both delicious. On the day of the wedding, the cake turned up bright and early and it looked terrific. We got a lot of positive remarks on its appearance, and even more when our guests tasted it. Our experience with Cakes Etc was 100% positive, and we'd have no hesitation in recommending them
