The Pilgrims Rest is a 600 hundred year old Wealden Hall House situated in the medieval town of Battle in East Sussex - right in the heart of 1066 country. With endless features from huge inglenook fireplaces to ancient beams; linenfold doors to oak floors, The Pilgrims Rest is an historic gem. It even has ancient witch's marks to ward off evil spirits and a secret tunnel that runs beneath the Abbey walls.

The Pilgrims Rest is the perfect backdrop for your wedding day. We have designed the venue to help you create an incredible wedding that is also affordable. We simply provide a beautiful, exclusive use wedding venue with no corkage charges, no fixed suppliers and lots and lots of added extras. You can choose your own caterers and suppliers, or even do the whole thing yourselves with the help of friends and family.
If you are a dab hand in the kitchen with a team of helpful friends and family and would like a DIY wedding then bring the food with you. We do not charge for corkage so you can bring your drinks too! If you would rather hand over the reigns then we have put together a list of great local caterers who are tried, tested and trusted by The Pilgrims Rest.

The Pilgrims Rest is essentially a dry hire venue but one with a difference. Rather than offering a blank space where everything needs to be hired in to make it sing, we have carefully designed and furnished the building to do just that. Four times a year, our professional styling team creates a new seasonal look for the building so that it needs little decoration.
Do you have a wedding licence? Yes, we are licensed with Hastings Registry Office. You would need to give notice to your local council and contact Hastings Registry office to book the ceremony. Do you have any local churches? The Pilgrims Rest is only a short drive from Crowhurst, Netherfield, Mountfield and Catsfield churches.

Intimate, magical and cosy...perfect for our October wedding!
Amy-Lou is an absolute gem and was one of the main reasons we chose the venue...her knowledge and support was incredible (especially with a date change!). Waverley & Elle are also great!

We used The Pilgrim’s for my sister-in-law’s wedding in November. Overall it was really good, but we expected one or two things to run more smoothly at the end of the day e.g. announcing when & where teas/ coffees were being served after the Breakfast, announcing ‘last orders’ at the bar late in the evening. Just a few little things that could have been run more smoothly, but definitely recommended overall.

My husband and I had our wedding at The Pilgrims Rest in September and we have to say we had an absolutely brilliant day. Not only was The Pilgrims Rest the perfect setting for our small wedding, but Waverley and Amy-Lou helped us all the way along the process and ensured the day went smoothly. Had our wedding there finally after two covid postponements and it truly was such a lovely place that has left us with such magical and memorable experience. The lasses who run it are superb and soo helpful and accomodating. Sad that I cannot give it another star!

We got married at The Pilgrims Rest in May and cannot begin to tell you how completely wonderful they were through the whole planning process! The team supported us through every chance to covid guidance and ensured we had an amazing time on the day. The venue itself is beautiful and is set up perfectly for a relaxed and intimate day. If we could give them more than 5 stars, we would.

We had our wedding in December 2020 at The Pilgrims Rest, and it was just perfect! We had a 15 people micro-wedding, and we wouldn't have had it any other way. Amy-Lou was amazing, kept us informed with all the new covid guidelines and constantly suggested ideas on how best to make the day work! We feel very lucky to have found such a great venue. Highly reccomend
