Thank you to Corilon and to Dr. Roeben for their time, their help and for providing with such a beautiful instrument. I really fell for the sound that was posted online and I can assure you that it's very representative of what the instrument can produce. The fact that the website is so well designed, so well updated and that Corilon replied within less than an hour to all my emails (even a year after my purchase) shows that it's a very serious house.
I can definitely recommend Corilon to advanced conservatoire students or former students (such as myself). PS. I was a little worried about the concept of shipping a violin, but once you see how well packed it is, you know nothing will happen to it.

In the past year, I had two violins sent one after the other from Corilon based only on an internet offer. One new, master 7/8, and then one bigger. - Both came from the hands of master fiddlers working for Corilon. In neither case did I regret it! For a very decent, not exorbitant price, I got exactly what was advertised in the offer: Beautifully made and beautiful sounding instruments. - Especially in terms of sound, fully matching the verbal description and the demo recording.
As much as I was worried that the tone of the demo recording would be somehow distorted compared to the reality, my fears turned out to be unnecessary in both cases. Therefore, I can warmly recommend choosing and buying an instrument from Corilon for myself, especially to every active musician who is looking for not only a beautiful and reliable instrument, but especially a very good sounding instrument.
And in addition, there is a very pleasant negotiation, as well as certain guarantees from the company. Of course, in both cases the violins were sent to me immediately in safe packaging.

We have purchased two violins from them. The first was an amazing value for an amazing sounding violin from about 1885. My professional level instructor was very impressed by it. Next we bought one that was not quite what we were looking for, but no worries, their return and exchange policy works just as advertised and we ended up with another excellent violin. I went to Corilon in search of a quality instrument after fruitlessly trying to find one I'd really like in commission shops at home. Dr. Roeben quickly replied to my inquiry and arranged a meeting, all I had to do was arrive and choose between some 15 instruments - all restored and set up - in the price range of my choosing. I was also kindly offered a separate room to try the instruments out even though the shop can get quite busy with customers at times.

I write this review as a purchaser of 3 instruments. I am not a professional musician but did play the viola from 2nd grade to high school. My 12 year old son plays in orchestra; classical music is hyper competitive in the Washington, D.C. Area. Dr. Roeben can select instruments when you give enough information on what you want. Two years earlier, we happened to find her shop while on vacation in Germany.
She picked out the violin which we bought. After emailing this time around on specifics for a new violin and price, she again picked another fine violin. I did test out 15 violins before concluding that the one she picked was the best choice. Clearly as a German based shop, she has the widest selection of German instruments. Still she does get fine instruments made in Italy and other countries.
I did purchase for my son an Italian made violin and a Czech made Viola for my younger son. Happily the viola just arrived shipped from Germany the other week.
